I hear that I-10 is a mess through Louisiana these days...any firsthand intelligence on this out there? Where does the trouble start/end? Saw a trucker site blog stating there was a partial shutdown due to a natural gas rig fire or some such thing recently...

TIA,

Chris,

I don't know much about that, but the long bridge on I-12 had some construction around it when I was there in Feb.

It is just like most major roads. Traffic is fast and they don't care about bikes. Construction is all over, including Texas. My city is on I-10 about 30 miles from the border.

If I needed to get somewhere I'd ride it. If I were in no hurry I find another way.

I've ridden it many times and had no trouble at all.

I went through there east bound about a month ago with no issues. The road in Beaumont TX was under construction at that time and was a mess.

As stated there is some construction around Beaumont ( Just west of LA border) and some in the Channelview area ( Just east of Houston). Occasionally some delays but not bad. Went from Houston to Hammond La recently, and I spend some time on I-10 off and on so I know it well. I would have to say that the Louisiana part is better than the Texas part. Make sure you take I-12 around New Orleans!
