Jeffrey Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I bought a used front OEM seat for my 2007 K1200GT. It mounts correctly but is too short. There is a 2-3 inch gap between it and the passenger seat. My old seat has two plastic tongues extending from the rear of the seat to connect with the passenger seat. The replacement seat has one wide tongue in the middle. I researched the replacement seat part #52537687981 on Realoem.com. It tells me I have a low black front seat for a K44 K1200GT. Why doesn't the seat fit my bike? I am totally befuddled!
BMKrider Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 You seem to be trying to mix the older style pillion seat with the "new" style rider seat (or maybe vice versa?). The original BMW seats (shipped on both '06 & some '07 models) proved to be both very uncomfortable and badly made. BMW therefore changed the style and even the size of both seats on the later models. BMW UK changed the originals out as a warranty item. I'm not sure what happened in the USA. However, both styles can be fitted to the GT but the MUST be fitted in pairs. i.e. two old rider and pillion or two new rider and pillion seats. They cannot (as you have found out) be mixed.
