Dances_With_Wiener_Dogs Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I'm looking for gear for my wife. Boots, pants, jacket. We sold her Aerostitch jacket a few years ago...even with a hem flare, it never fit quite right. I think Aerostitch has a basic men's pattern and they try to make it fit women with some alterations. At least, that is our guess. Anyway, because it will affect your suggestions, I'll tell you that Val is 5'3", with hips! She often remarks that in order to get pants that fit, they are sized for her waist but not her hips, or visa versa. Any suggestions for gear that is made from the outset with women's figures in mind? Thanks!
Tony_K Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Lori's 4' 11" You know see's hard to fit! But we did find a pair of Firstgear mesh pants that fit perfectly off the hanger. The leg length actually was perfect which we couldn't believe. She also has a women's Firstgear Kilimanjaro jacket that is for winter. It's a bit bulky but it works. And a women's Alpinestars summer mesh. I also just picked up a pair of brand new Lee Parks gloves for 20 bucks for her in XS. That was a total deal. I have been the one to source all her riding gear. Most of it a season or 2 or 3 old or pre owned at significant savings.
jslyter Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 My wife has had really good luck with, and loves her Olympia gear. She is also 5'3".
Dances_With_Wiener_Dogs Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 I just found this fantastic link: http://www.dropbears.com/bikelinks/Apparel/Womens_Apparel/
Selden Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Check out She Rides, which was founded by a woman rider for the usual reasons. Although the brand was sold to someone else a few years ago, they still carry a large selection of decent gear for women -- not Harley slut wear. They do mail order.
Lmar Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 You may want to check into Teknic Gear. Three years ago I bought a Cortech waterproof 3/4 length jacket for my wife and she loves it.
Cycledude Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I went looking for gear for my finance about a year ago. I also have an Aerostich and love it. However I could not justify the cost for her. We settled on TourMaster ladies gear. We got her the Ladies Transition 2 Jacket and Ladies Venture Pants. She is 5'4" and is very comfortable in the gear. We have had a few good rides in the rain and she stayed dry. This combo has all the feature of the Darian, and some more. Very nice product, and fair price. Great value for the dollars. Here is a photo of her in the gear. Snowy.
Yeeha! Stephen Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Medium price Fieldsheer has gear for women. Miss Vicki is 5'0" and they had some nice stuff for her...
Tim Wilson Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 My wife has the similar problems (5'3"), mostly with regard to pants. The majority of the "women-specific" brands of gear that we found are either cut for petite, skinny model-types or are predominantly meant to look good with little in the way of real protective value. We ended up finding a Frank Thomas jacket that fit her and for pants she had to settle on men's short First Gear HT overpants. When we have the funds, we'll probably end up ordering some tailored gear from Motoport ($$$$).
lvnvbiker Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 My wife has a Joe Rocket womens coat (1750-1562 are the only style numbers I can find in it) mesh with water/wind proof inner that she loves and that fits her "hippy" figure quite well.
rdwalker Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Similar problem to my wife's, eh? You are right, it is very hard to get women's gear in small sizes. Here is what we settled on (after having a closet full of stuff she did/does not like). By the way, my wife is about 5'3" 105#, size 6 - for reference. Cold weather: Transition Jacket from Cortech, size S. House-brand pants from a German distributor. Mid-weather: Rev'it Typhoon Jacket, size 38 (Rev'it sizes run very small). Scorpion Savannah pants Medium (these are really great, because the cut is fairly shape fitting with and w/o liner - you know, in answer to 'do these pants make my hips big?'). Hot weather: Rev'it Air, size XS unisex - although I'll probably sell these now that we have the Typhoon. Show-off: MotoGP Rio leather pants for rides where I relent and give up on need for protective armor. But they look good. Finally, boots: Icon Bombshell. I did not like the buckled look (too cruiser-like...) in catalog, but in the store they did not look too bad: with pants over, the buckles were no longer visible. She is very happy with the style, comfort and sturdiness without being bulky. Note that these are really passenger boots, not really suited for operating control.
