David Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 For me, it's dancing (I look like I'm having an epileptic seizure), swimming (I look like I'm drowning), snow skiing, and water skiing.
Kathy R Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Tennis and Ice Skating. Weak wrists and bad ankles. I substituted Frisbee and Roller Skating and never looked back
4wheeldog Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 +1 on the dancing. I don't look too bad, but I am a very slow learner. I actually tried, several times......But the class just leaves me behind. Not many things that make me feel like a dunce, but dancing does it to me.
90%angel Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I'm pretty much bad at all the same things on your list, David. It's a big bummer, because I love doing all the things on that list (well, except for maybe water skiing; I've never actually gotten out of the water, so I don't really know what it's actually like! Since I like jetskiing so much, I assume I'd like it, if I could do it. Not worth the pain to me to learn, though!)
AZKomet Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 +1 on the dancing. I don't look too bad, but I am a very slow learner. I actually tried, several times......But the class just leaves me behind. Not many things that make me feel like a dunce, but dancing does it to me. +2 On the dance thing. Really coordinated otherwise. Just can't get those neurons in unison when it comes to cutting the rug!!!
Quinn Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Sex, although I'm always able to please myself with my efforts.
JayW Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Woodworking. I measure twice, cut once and it still doesn't fit. Jay
Gregori Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 For me, it's dancing (...) This thread is useless without video... Hmm? Oh - what am _I_ bad at? Controlling my impulses to be a smart-ass...
KDeline Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Any kind of house projects most of you take for granted. I can't do any of that kind of stuff.
David Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Remember that Seinfeld episode where everyone is laughing at Elaine's dancing? That's me.
Francois_Dumas Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Dancing, swimming, working out and confrontational discussions.
Steve1962 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 .......almost anything practical - DIY - for such a lightweight , I'm terribly heavy handed . Also as a mechanic , I'm about as much use as a chocolate teapot . Steve
Rocer Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I'll jump on the bandwagon with the dancing but I won't mention the zero zero thing (well, come to think of it I'm good at that) mini hijack - Steve re: pathfinder -Piper or NASA?
David Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Looks like a lot of us aren't very good at dancing. I actually think I could be average, with some effort. But I'd have to have some serious lessons, and all in private. For me it's more a self-conscious thing.
Matts_12GS Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 But I'd have to have some serious lessons, and all in private. For me it's more a self-conscious thing. I'm here to help! I'm rhythmically challenged so any kind of dancing outside of "belt buckle polishing" is out of my repertoire.
David Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Great video. I'm glad I watched it all the way through and caught the last part. Apparently white men can't jump or dance.
Joel Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Dancing (big white guy, 'nuf said) Water skiing (=> high volume/velocity enema) Billiards (Don't wanna pay for dinner? Let's play!) Video games (wife beats me like a rented mule) Lying
David Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 Darn, that's another one for me--I am pathetic at video games, or anything like them. I've always wanted to do RC stuff, but I can't "live" in a helicopter for more than 10 seconds.
Lynn Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Most sport-type activities. I enjoy some of them, but am really awful and would be picked last (rightfully) for any team activities. Dancing-I am with everyone on that. I could probably get better, but it would take lessons. And a lot of beer to get over the self-consciousness of it all. DIY-stuff. I can do some of it, but it takes me approximately 25 times longer than it should. It took me nearly two full days to paint my teeny-tiny little guest bathroom. And laying the (simple) flooring in there added another two days to the job. Most of the time, I am better off hiring someone to do it. Wrenching. I can change my own oil. And I can assist someone else in doing work on my car/bike (lots of practice when I was a kid in helping my dad with our junkers). But I never got good at figuring out what was wrong with a car and what steps to take to fix it. These days, I do my own oil changes and that is about it. Drawing. Most of my stick figures are lopsided....and I can't draw something else to save my life. Sales. I have been in jobs where I did sales-like activities, and I just wasn't very good at it.
BanjoBoy Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Sex, although I'm always able to please myself with my efforts. Hey that's all that matters right? Your SO is on her own! I too suck at all the above, and I'd like to add public speaking to the list.
Mister Tee Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Golf. I've been told I'm a danger to myself and others on the golf course. And I have about a 20% contact ratio.
Bill_Walker Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I don't think I have enough time for the full list. But I can start by saying "any sport involving a moving ball". OTOH, I'm good at water-skiing and snow-skiing! Umm, arguing. I'm really bad at arguing. Artistic endeavors. Dancing for me, too. I ain't got rhythm.
JohnnyJ Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 For me, it's dancing (I look like I'm having an epileptic seizure), If this overweight white guy can not look foolish when he dances, then maybe there's hope for the rest of us.
tallman Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Admitting what I am bad at. I my mind I'm good at everything. In reality, I'm better than that.
lvnvbiker Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Dance(absolutly no rythm), song(REALY BAD), dealing with stupid people, taking compliments, house keeping, keeping my mouth shut when something going on is not right( at work or otherwise), and a bunch more stuff that I can't remember until I am trying to do it.
Joe Frickin' Friday Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Looks like a lot of us aren't very good at dancing. I actually think I could be average, with some effort. But I'd have to have some serious lessons, and all in private. For me it's more a self-conscious thing. It's almost entirely a self-conscious thing for me. I feel like I'm on display, and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. When I was a little kid I grew to f'n HATE weddings; I got dragged to a number of them with my parents/brother/sister, and at the reception various women would inevitably try to drag me out onto the dance floor. Some were persistent to the point of being obnoxious. Ah, the (bitter) memories... I could take lessons, but moving in a choreographed sequence isn't the same as the improvised "fun" dancing that people do at nightclubs. Had the same "self-conscious" issue when it came to musical solos. Played sax in a concert band and jazz band in high school; had a lot of fun as part of the group, but completely eschewed any solo parts. A bizarre counterexample: In grad school in Madison a bunch of us went to a minor league baseball game one night. Someone from the announcer's booth came wandering through the stands looking for someone to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" over the PA system during a break (7th inning stretch?). When he asked our group, for some reason EVERYONE pointed to ME. I resisted, but they would not back down, and in my semi-drunken state I finally relented. I can sing reasonably well (I just don't like singing to/for other folks), so my performance was well-received, much to the surprise of my friends.
Bill_Walker Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 You're lucky, Mitch. When I start to sing, somebody usually asks me to stop.
Kathy R Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 In 5th grade they gently walked me out of the chorus room and over to the instrument room and asked me what I wanted to learn to play.
Lynn Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 You're lucky, Mitch. When I start to sing, somebody usually asks me to stop. I knew I was missing one of my big 'can't do that' things. I can't carry a tune unless someone prints out the sheet music so I can carry it across the room-preferably to someone who can stay in tune. I can play a few instruments (clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, tenor sax....at least I could back in high school and college, anyway), but singing in such a way that it is recognizable as music is completely beyond my natural talents.
Paul Mihalka Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Same thing as some of you: Dancing. Any ball game. That is I think is because I have lousy bifocal vision so my close distance depth perception is non-existent. Any personal athletics. Singing, about the same as Kathy. When I changed from elementary to high school, every kid had to sing something to see if they are material for choir. They kicked me out of the class room because they thought I was kidding. Many other things but I don't want to fill a page...
TyTass Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Like everyone else here, I can't dance. Funny thing is I used to dance like crazy back in my high school years, and even won a few competitions. It hardly seems like that was me, now. I can't seem to remember what part of me tapped into the rhythm and made my body move. Now I stand there for a moment in complete confusion, dumbfounded about what to do next. It's not like I don't have rhythm. Music is a hobby of mine, I'm a bass player and have played in some bands and have been recorded ... so I have evidence that I have rhythm. But it's apparently it all moved into my fingers!
Husker Red Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Golf. I've been told I'm a danger to myself and others on the golf course. And I have about a 20% contact ratio. Oh, so Mr. Tee isn't a golf reference? I am also terrible at golf. Generally I consider myself fairly well coordinated, but I just can't put a swing together. I completely miss the ball as often as I hit it.
David Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 You're lucky, Mitch. When I start to sing, somebody usually asks me to stop. Do they yell, "Fat Lady! Fat Lady!"
beemerman2k Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I am terrible at anything having to do with money management. Give me a money management book or video and I'll be asleep inside of 30 seconds. B-O-R-I-N-G!!! The only exception to this rule is the writings of Robert Kiyosaki. He's quite controversial, but I like his pragmatic view toward making money. Is he good? I wouldn't know as I have no one to compare him to. Does he entertain me enough to keep me awake? Absolutely. So if for no other reason, I am familiar with his writings only.
eddd Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 For me, it would be admitting I'm wrong. Luckily, it has never been necessary.
SeanC Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 I've been pondering this question all weekend. Haven't come up with anything yet....
David Posted May 11, 2009 Author Posted May 11, 2009 I've been pondering this question all weekend. Haven't come up with anything yet.... This is the typical statement I was expecting from you, only I'm disappointed that it took you so long. One other thing I'm bad at, friend, is making the righting friends.

TyTass Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 You're also bad at gerunds. And that is what I've come to expect from him!
TyTass Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Oh, that reminds me of something else I'm not good at ... Writing short responses, short PMs, or short emails!
