Mister Tee Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 The Tee did a boneheaded move. He pulled the side Wunderlich bars, and fairings off his 08 12RT to do a 24K service, went riding to warm up the oil, and didn't completely remove the allen set screws that secure the tops of the bars to the front crossbar. As a result, one vibrated loose and fell out. I have the other. I've been riding for last couple thousand miles without them, but I sort of would like to have both in there, even though I probably don't really need them, as the lower bolts seem to clamp everything together anyway. Is there a readily available source for these bolts and screws that anyone knows about? Can't find on in the Wunderlich catalog.
GordonB Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 You don't necessarily have to have the set screws as supplied, you can't see 'em anyway up there behind the fairing. Take your 'good' screw and go to the local hardware store and match it up to a similar sized bolt (with the head of your choice) replace 'em both.

Oh I get that point - my problem is that I'm having a real difficult time locating suitable replacements. My local hardware stores aren't keen on stocking metric sizes. So far I'm zero for three.
Alan D Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Look for a Fastenal Place near you. They sell fasteners of all kinds. Some stores want you to buy a box, some will sell you one bolt. Good luck
RT Russ Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Don't know where in NorCal you are but I have found that the ACE Hardware in Martinez has an amazing selection of metric fasteners. Try your local ACE if you are not near Martinez. Good luck! Hawk
johnlt Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 +1 on Ace Hardware. All of our local Ace Hardware have excellent inventory of metric bolts, nuts, set screws etc.; including stainless steel.
Mister Tee Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 I'll try ACE, and I can even stop by the Martinez store the next time I'm near there. Thx, Tee
