Perlova Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 This is out of the R1100 BMW Repair Manual: Oil capacities Engine (incl. filter) 3.75 litre Engine (without filter renewal) 5.50 litre Huh? Without changing the filter, it says to put in 5.5 litres of oil? Does this make any sense at all?
Linz Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Mine's not getting one drop more than a measured 3.75 litres, regardless of what the manual says. Linz
Perlova Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 They must have meant 3.5 (not 5.5) litres without a filter change.

If you look at the 1100 and the 1150 manuals side by side, you can se that they have amended it in the 1150 manual which now reads the correct 3.5 litres. Andy
Trullion Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 It's 3.5 litres if you don't change the filter (unlikely) and 3.75 litres with a filter change. Personally I have always checked the oil level by reference to a measured 3.75 litres after an oil change. This is roughly half way up the sight glass. Why put more oil in than the stated capacity? Regards

Regards The only reason to put in more than 3.75 qts of oil, is if you want to thoroughly oil your air filter.
