1100RTGuy Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Hello All, Just wanted to let everyone know that I picked up a '85 K100 the other day. I was surprised at how well this motorcycle runs at 24 years old it doesn't like to sit still. Am a little taken back by the speedo error it's 10 mph to fast is there a way to "cure" this? I would like to make it look like new, is there a web site to get spare body parts? Talk to ya all later
k75duck Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 They usually run about 10 PERCENT fast. http://fdk11.pcriot.com/bmw/tech/speedocal/speedocal.htm If you don't want to mess with sending a signal through the speedo sensor and all of that, just turn that potentiometer about 45 degrees (1/8 turn) counterclockwise and that will get it pretty darned close.
bmw_rider Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 The 85 speedo is notorious for issues. From the one you describ to outright failture. The one I have has been very reliable however.
Damun Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Check Beemer Boneyard and IBMWR Marketplace. Also, the guys on the yahoo KBMW list (K75 & K100) may have some leads. I was able to get a faring for the RS from Claude on that list.
Damun Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Hey, your speedo works. That puts you in an elite 2V K group! The speedo on my 1985 K100RS is 10% fast. Keeps the ticket count down :-) Google IBMWR Tech, navigate to K bikes, you will find detailed how-to...on dozens of topics.
Dennis Andress Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 `85s were a bit of an oddball. In 86 the frame, tank, seat, and tail section all changed. Along with the new tank came a completely different way of measuring fuel quantity. Dennis
SKYGZR Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Personally, the K is pretty much spot on, while the R is the 10% fast (over) one.
