BOXDAWG Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Getting ready to mount new conti road attacks. The front tire has an arrow on the sidewall going one way and smaller arrows on the side of the treads going the other. Which way am I supposed to mount it
George Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 It's the main one you go by, the smaller ones are purely cosmetic, there has been some similar confusion over here in the UK where a few have been fitted wrong.
BOXDAWG Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 So the sidewall aroows are correct then. Thank's for the quick reply
philbytx Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 The RA's cause confusion at a lot of shops! The rear tire has the "pointy" end of the tread pattern on the tyre pointing forward as you look at the tire from the rear. The front tyre has the pointy end of the tread pattern facing the rearward!
Selden Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Someone explained this (for another tire) in a way that I understood last year. Think about the loads on each tire: the front tire has to handle braking forces, and the rear (mostly) has to handle acceleration forces. Therefore, the treads should work in different directions.
philbytx Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 If you look at the Conti rain grooves, the front tyre tread is designed to "push" the water out of the way of the rear tyre .
