OoPEZoO Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 yup.....I cut the wires on my RT and twisted them together with a wire nut. Damn thing let me sit on the way to work one morning in rush hour traffic on the highway........not a happy camper. Just don't forget to put the sidestand up. i've had some scary reminders leaving the parking lot at work when I've left it down.
Ken H. Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Yes, but are you sure you want to? As a temporary ‘get home’ measure, well OK, but to leave a bike that way long-term, and risk riding away with the side stand down some day and levering it off the ground on the next left hander; I’m not so sure.
SKYGZR Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Always using the parking stand (center stand) will eliminate "riding away with the side stand down". If you need to kick out the side stand to get off, fine, but park the machine on the parking stand, then return the side stand to it's up position. Personally, I never leave the machine on the side stand if it can be avoided. (Sometimes on hills, slants, or other conditions one might have to), yet usually the parking stand is used...that's what it's for..

I thought the side stand was for parking short term and the center stand for long term? I'm asking I don't know the protocal
SKYGZR Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Personally..The machine is more "secure" when on the parking stand, fueling is "easier", and able to get more fuel into the tank while the machine is "level" and not "leaning", easier to check tire pressure, as wheels will "rotate" by hand to locate the stem for easy access, loading or access to bags will be easier since the machine is "level", stuff won't "fall out" or be hard to work with 'cause the machine is "leaning"...just a few reasons... Once in the "habit" of using the parking stand, it becomes "second nature"...
Ken H. Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I don't much like the word, "always." Which stand to use is an often debated subject. Personally I threw my center/"parking" stand away long ago.
