Joe Frickin' Friday Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 An acquaintance recently bought a used FZ1. It needs a new rear tire. He plans to use it for basic commuting, and wants a very long-lasting tire. I suggested ME880, but they don't make one in his size (180/55/17). Can anyone here suggest another long-running tire that might fit? Thanks...
Whip Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I got over 10,000 miles on my PRII's on the K12R.....a record for me. Lots of two up and spirited riding...
OoPEZoO Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 hit up Bob Foley.......he has been riding a FZ1 for the past year or so.

The standard tire size for the back of the R1200RT is also a 180/55/17 but a 170/60/17 workks very well on the RT. It would probably work well on the FZ1 too.

Lots of FZ1 riders run the standard list of sport touring tires, Roadsmart, PR2 ect... Might want to guide him to here and ask the folks on the board about some high milage options. Mike
Bill Murray Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I ride a K1200R-Sport, rather than your FZ1. That said, I have been very pleased with the Michelin Pilot Road 2 tires that I have been running. I ran my rear tire (190 profile) for 10,000 miles, until I picked up a puncture and decided to go ahead and change it (it still had 1-2mm of tread left). The front gave me 13,000 miles worth of service. I have religiously maintained tire pressures -- 42 psi rear and 38 psi front. Overall, I am very satisfied with the PR2's.
