psmitty Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I want to purchase an Autocom and I am not sure which one to buy... http://www.topgearaccess.com/store/index.php/base-kits-units I want to hook up bike to bike, gps, cell phone, and mp3. Maybe others I have not thought of yet... I currently have Arizona Al ear plugs and I am having Al install the speakers while I am in Torrey. Now I want an Autocom! Any help would be appreciated.
johnlt Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I've had several Autocom units and am currently using the Super Pro AVI. I have a Zumo with bluetooth cell phone. MP3, XM radio, GPS voice guidance, radar, and bike-2-bike GMRS all working seamlessly. Excellent product "if you install it correctly with the correct leads". Most problems come from installation short-cuts. I did it like they said with their leads and it works perfect. My opinion,
krussell Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I have the Super Pro AVI and have been happy with it. They have a new set of models you may want to check out too. Top Gear only has the old stuff, they aren't going to continue to be a distributor. You can probably get some deals. For the new models, go to the UK site, they don't have a UK site right now. It's worth spending some time learning about the various features and comparing the different models. You will live with it a long time, and you should get what works for *you*.
John Bentall Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 If you are going for earplugs and you intended to hook up a Garmin Zumo stereo GPS, then definitely ring the UK factory and order the Super Pro Automatic, their latest 2009 model. Make sure you ask for headset 2091 with the new flylead for the Arizona Al earplugs (note that helmet speakers are optional with this headset) and be sure to tell them all the items you are going to hook up so that they can advise on the right connections/cables. The factory are doing introductory deals on the new models. The new instruction manuals make fitting much easier. I have this particular new model and it's great.
BevBeng Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Just got a Kit 200 Solo rider and a whole lot of education on Autocom. I had the same items I wanted to tie together. In addition to the Kit 200, I also got the Autocom 1314 for the GPS/MP3 and the Autocom 1273 Bluetooth dongle (for the phone). Of the 3 kits listed at the Topgear site, the main differences of the base kits are: Easi-Plus Solo Kit / Kit 150 - Mono audio only + single headset Active Plus Solo Kit / Kit 200 Solo - Stereo audio + single headset Active Plus Duo Kit / Kit 200 Duo - Kit 200 solo + a second headset Super Pro AVi Solo / Kit 300 - Stereo plus auto volume + single headset BTW-I got my set last month from Keith @ Tulsa Truck Center 918-446-2245. He's an ST guy but is a true Autocom guru. Got my Autocom in 2 days after ordering. He posts these prices (much better than TopGear) for the non-2009 models: Kit 200 solo rider $165.00 kit 200 Duo 265.00 Kit 300 Super Pro 275.00 Good luck.
psmitty Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 Yes, I will have Arizona Al's ear plugs with the speakers installed. I want the Autocom system to work with them.
John Bentall Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Yes, I will have Arizona Al's ear plugs with the speakers installed. I want the Autocom system to work with them. The earplugs will work with any Autocom system manufactured in the last 15 years - it's just that the new 2091 headset integrates the stereo jack in the neatest way yet.
