KCB Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 The oil cooler has once again collected a nice cross section of insect life...Has anyone put a pre-screen across the two openings in the cowl below the headamp assembly ('04 R1150RT) or maybe across the cooler face itself?? Someone must make a unit to snap into those two openings? What have you seen? Be alot easier then removing the bugs from the cooler. Bugs Buggy
smiller Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Just cut out a little section of plastic window screening and slide it in there. Very functional and almost invisible. A 50-cent solution although I'm sure you can pay $30 for something if you look around...
W. Mazelin Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I have Wunderlich screens on my R-1150-GS , and my wifes R-1150-RS. Touratech may also make a screen. Try www.touratech-usa.com or www.wunderlichamerica.com for more info. Cheers!

Jerry Duke Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I have a template and instructions in a PDF file for an R1100S. I imagine you could use the same screen template, but the instructions are for the R11S. I bought a 3' section of gutter guard from Home Depot for $3. Used a 1' section. Works great, aluminum so no rust, and allows a lot of air flow. Anyone interested, just let me know: jerry.duke@gmail.com Don't send PM's here, I'm not on this site everyday.

Enter a public apology to the collective, or commit Sepuku! Nothing under $20 should be recommended, except maybe oil filters for $15.
breyfogle Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Nothing under $20 should be recommended, except maybe oil filters for $15. Guess that means the Wunderlich screen is the way to go. It's only $89.00 !!
smiller Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Better still! Never solve a problem for 50 cents when you can spend $89.
KCB Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 What a wonderfully funny group, lots of sage advise on how to spend other people's money, and just a keystroke away Thanks for the replies, went to the various site suggestions to look at the costly goods. Champagne tastes on Guinness income. Going with the expanded mesh style, I had a piece of stainless screen from another project which will work well after a couple of clips are attached to secure it. So, not quite a .50cent solution, but it'll leave enough for a brew.
