Joel Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Ramirez nabbed In case there were any lingering doubt about what a knucklehead the guy is. 50 games and ~$8MM in salary lost doesn't seem like enough penalty for such monumental stupidity.
Redbrick Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 "Say it ain't so Joe" ............Bet they're having laughing parties in Boston..........
skinny_tom (aka boney) Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 "Say it ain't so Joe" ............Bet they're having laughing parties in Boston.......... We are here in SF too, we almost signed him this year. I wonder how their 6 win streak will play out.

Ummmmmm....Tom, I think it's a 13 game win streak... ...We'll see tonight.... 6-0 in the second. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say their MLB.com confirmed 7 win streak will probably be 8.

The limb broke with a loud CRACK! Washington 11, LA Dodgers 9

MattS Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 ...any lingering doubt about what a knucklehead the guy is. 50 games and ~$8MM in salary... Sure, that's one way to look at this. But given the paucity of days off in the major leagues, it actually seems like a shrewd (perhaps even planned) economically savvy move by both Ramírez and the Dodgers. Consider: he's not playing, so he gets to go to car shows and the beach and all of the stuff he can only do in the winter. The club saves eight million bucks. He's back by the break, and (barring further suspensions) is with them down the stretch. This follows the template established by players like Clemens, who would take to the field well into the season when they would be of greater utility to their clubs. Ramírez is no spring chicken, and by pulling him for the remainder of the spring season he will be fresher for the run into the fall. In the meantime, he's been immediately contrite and continues to wear the uniform. I think there's no question about it, Manny bleeds Dodger Blue:

Joel Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 No doubt those factors played into the decision not to appeal the suspension -- might as well get it over with before the pennant race heats up. Dude can afford the latest designer PE drugs that couldn't be detected in testing, but gets busted anyway for something obvious. MLB probably had him dead-to-rights on synthetic testosterone, too. Maybe the Dodgers won't miss his production for 2 months, but I'm sure they'd rather have it. As for contrition, no doubt he's sorry he got caught, but I can't believe he regrets the deed in the first place. Still looks like a first-degree knucklehead to me.
drzep Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Manny has been a punk [read: moron] since day 1. He puts on the aloof, humor show but the reality is unchanged - he's still a punk. And this drug issue is absolutely no surprise. It has always been Manny first, team second.
