GPS via laptop

Any previous experience with this? I have the mac notebook and spend a lot of time in my truck. The Garmin 376 c is not that user friendly on the fly so I am thinking about a laptop GPS system. Any thoughts or ideas???

BTW I have called Garmin tech support and have been on ETERNAL hold twice now. Support page doesn't offer any help I could find.

You can buy Micrsoft Streets & Trips bundled with a USB GPS module. For a PC, at least. I assume there's a Mac version out there.

The massive display of a laptop would be a nice feature, but on-the-fly interaction would probably not be as easy as it would with the dedicated buttons of a handheld GPS. Just a guess.

It sounds like you already have the 376C. You can buy MSS&T without a GPS module, and you should be able to plug your 276 into the USB port and use it with MSS&T.

Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a Mac version of MS Streets & Trips. There is always VMware Fusion however.

I've got a Zumo 550 and it takes a trick to get it to output NMEA data over the USB connection, but I believe the 376c works without shenanigans.

I use the now discontinued, free Windows software nRoute (which you can still get (here).

For a Mac only solution, RouteBuddy or Google Earth Pro for Mac both accept NMEA data and should work, but I've not used them.
