Les is more Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Here are the results of my surgery. The doctor said the surgery was fun because it went so perfectly. I'm glad that SHE enjoyed it! Textbook surgery with textbook results. Apparently, I have good bones--at least that's what the surgeon said. When David and I die there will be an estate sale.
rogera Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Leslie glad to hear you are healing. Nice pic's. See you in Aug.
David Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 That second picture looks like some sort of large insect has invaded you. Maybe you could star on The Fringe!
azkaisr Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Let me just say your x-rays are way more sexy than David's. Not saying that David isn't sexy....just saying yours are way more. Happy for you Les. Can't wait for that hug! Tommy
Firefight911 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Glad it went so well. I love how you accessorize! Quick heal, quick heal!!
Ken H. Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Is you “jewelry” permanent? I sort of presumed David’s is, but maybe I’m wrong... Looks like you could still operate a throttle, yes?
Paul Mihalka Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Good job! Heal fast! If your's heals as fast as mine and you are as crazy as I (which I hope you are not) you'll be riding in four weeks.
Patallaire Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Ouch~ you guys and your bionic bones, you better save a lot of money for retirement as with the changes in medicine that we have just witnessed here, you will live a long, long life. Hope your recovery goes well and be careful walking through airport security!
Matts_12GS Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Reminds me of a chiropractor I used to see. He was proud of the xray that showed the 6 screws that held his left leg on. Crazy Ducati riders... Glad it's healing well Les!
DaveTheAffable Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hey Les... will you be able to do this? Wow..an "X-Girl" in our midst!
Joel Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Wow, the stuff they put in Erector Sets these days is WAY cooler than it used to be. I hope everything heals up well and quickly.
eddd Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I'm glad to hear you're on the mend, and that the surgeon didn't screw-up.
Jerry Johnston Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 It might even be useful if it were magnetic. You could use it to hold tools or something? Happy to hear you're mending well !
Les is more Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 Is you “jewelry” permanent? I sort of presumed David’s is, but maybe I’m wrong... Looks like you could still operate a throttle, yes? Yes, much like diamonds, this titanium is forever. The doc assured me that there was no incursion into the joint. She allowed as how a motorcycle trip of 100 to a few hundred miles would probably be okay in late July. When we told her that it would be more like 8,000 miles she said no way. We'll see how the PT goes and how the x rays are looking. I haven't given up hope but the severity of the break may dictate what happens.
Limecreek Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Dang Leslie...that looks like it hurts! I hope you heal up better than new. I hear red wine promotes bone growth.
Jake Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 When we told her that it would be more like 8,000 miles she said no way. You'd get that reaction under normal circumstances, right?! What your Doctor doesn't know won't hurt you! Or something like that...
wolcott Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I hope you heal quickly; I know you are anxious to get on that German speed-machine!
Dances_With_Wiener_Dogs Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 You think they coulda etched a roundel in it or something. That's be cool!
Paul_Burkett Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 WOW, those screws look wicked, and not in a good way. I'm just glad that you are on the mend.
Quinn Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Did you get to do the "Will I be able to play the piano? Funny, I never could before." bit with the doctor?

I think most docs tend to be fairly conservative in their predictions. On your 'cycle, my cogitating tells me that you won't be placing much strain on the injured arm, though I suppose holding your throttle position for an extended period of time may pose a problem (this is your right arm, right?). I know it's a ways off, but if you don't already use one, something like a Throttle Rocker could prove to be hugely helpful. I hope you heal quickly!

From San Diego to NH it's not all Interstate... I hope...
Paul_Burkett Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 That looks like a left hand to me. You don't need to use it that much, unless the bike is falling down on the left side, then you let it go and ask Jaime to pick it up.
Mark_Turner Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 My dog feels your pain! Not a great picture but his leg is in pink cast!
Les is more Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 Nope. Why would I waste time breaking my non-dominant hand? Besides, stopping things--me--from falling with my hand was how I got into this mess in the first place! The throttle rocker could turn out to be my best friend. Only time will tell.
Les is more Posted May 6, 2009 Author Posted May 6, 2009 You know, I wanted a purple cast but never got one. I guess it's a dog's life after all! Poor pup!
Laney Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I'm glad the surgery went well, but those x-rays look painful... I hope the healing part goes way more quickly than your doctor thinks it will!
JohnnyJ Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I was feeling sorry for you and David for not being able to ride for quite a while. Soon after I went to the gym for a workout and some basketball. I ended up in the emergency room with a completely ruptured Achilles tendon. I have surgery Monday. I am just now researching the consequences. The good news for you Leslie is that you will now be able to predict the weather. I had a similar injury many years ago (strong drill motor + large bit + awkward angle = OUCH). I healed just fine other than a little soreness just prior to rain.
Tank Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 If Cary has Jewelry hidden in his bones, this site may have a trend, come on, Cary fess up. Enquiring minds want to know,
Les is more Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Oh No! Our neighbor did the same thing--only racquetball not roundball. Seems that he forgot that he was closing in on 40 and had never extended his stretching and warm up regimen. I'm sorry and I hope yours is the best possible outcome.
JohnnyJ Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I'm sorry and I hope yours is the best possible outcome. Thanks! We need to occasionally experience these lessons to truly appreciate the good times.
Jacqueline Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I'm glad you are healing quickly! Maybe some type of brace for that 8k mile UN trip?
Les is more Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 Maybe some type of brace for that 8k mile UN trip? Maybe, but it's that wrist twisting thing that I have to regain. BTW, nothing is healed yet. The plate and screws are just for stabilization. The bone still has a lot of serious knitting to do.
