BabyCow Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Day 1 - Monday 20th April I had been here since the 2nd April but had to meet Paul in Los Angeles on Tuesday. It is his first time in the States..... in fact apart from Fiji for 5-6 days in 1996 it is his first big trip. He has a leave pass from his lovely wife Donna and two kids Jess and McKenna. He has heard that the drivers are really bad so he is prepared for anything. What really happened was sight unseen he brought a new helmet and jacket and was trying them on as soon as we got back to the rental car. We were using the car to get from LA to San Jose where we had rented two K1200 GT. Day 2 Tuesday 21st April I had sought advice from board members and received much advice from among others Twisties (Jan), Jacqueline and BeniciaRT_GT (Richard). I was expecting to meet Jacqueline and Richard and had no idea who this third interloper was. In fact it was Jan. What a pleasant surprise. After a few packing issues we are ready to go We then went for a ride around the SF area Twisties was enroute to Joshua Tree so joined us for the rest of the day California Highway 25 Day 3 - Wednesday 22nd April Mojave Air and Space Port I hope I never fly in the plane that has recycled landing gear Virgin Galactic is the world's first spaceline and will own and operate its privately built spaceships, modelled on the remarkable, history-making SpaceShipOne Virgin Galactic's space flights will initially operate from the Mojave Spaceport. This is the carrier aircraft used to launch the sub orbital craft Stargazer is a modified Lockheed L-1011 TriStar aircraft used by Orbital Sciences Corporation as a mother ship launch pad for Pegasus rockets. Jacqueline Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Wonderful start . I've been to Mojave but never knew one could get so close to the planes.

BabyCow Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 Day 4 Around Los Angeles We made contact with Jerry (Mather) who was going to show us a few rides around LA. He was bringing along a couple of his mates (yahoos! ) , Wayne and Paul. They took us up to the Angeles Crest Highway.Out of the mountains it was overcast and yukky whislt in the San Gabriel (Have I got that right?) it was sunny. The wow factor on the Angeles Crest Highway was extremely high. Road surface fantastic, scenery excellent, company fantastic, twisties factor excellent, other traffic extremely low........just a great day! Thanks Jerry An enjoyable lunch was had here at Newcombs Ranch Day 5 Somewhere in Nevada? Where are we? In Paris? No In Cairo? No. In New York? No Where else but in Las Vegas! TBC
BabyCow Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 We had a couple of days in Vegas so did a couple of tourist things. Paul (Dimmi) was quite chuffed when he recorded this time..... so much so that he made me take a photo of the time and proceeded to advice me of that time until...... I went faster. Read em and weep....baby. Unfortunately I missed the photo of him beached like a stranded whale ....backwards....after spinnin whilst trying to beat my time, awaiting the attendants to push him back onto the track. Sigh! Would have been one of the photo's of the trip..... his excuses were even better! Fremont Street One for the gun nuts. We visited the Gun Store in Vegas where I fired an Uzzi and some handgun. No way we would ever see any of these guns in Australia. Leaving Vegas we headed towards Williams, Arizona passing the Hoover Dam Nice Police car on the outskirts of Kingman, Arizona. We get to see some even closer later in the trip....... some by choice others not Williams Arizona and Route 66 Is there a better way to see the Grand Canyon than by helicopter? Very doubtful. Wow!
