David Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I'm not into horse racing, but I always watch this one. What a hoot to watch a horse that cost $9,500, pulled to the track behind an ol' pickup truck, kick the asses of the multi-million dollar horses flown in on Boeing 747 airplanes. I love it. That'll be a movie.
Couchrocket Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Yes! I got a kick out of it too, and the jockey's elation and wishing his folks were still around to see it. Sweet guy. The overhead shots of that horse squirting up the inside are wonderful... talk about fast! +1 on the movie.
Matts_12GS Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 race Cars, not animals! nonetheless, I'm always glad to see the purebred lose.
David Posted May 3, 2009 Author Posted May 3, 2009 I know what you mean. It's the only horse race I watch, and I cringe every time. When that one horse died in the race a year or two ago, I cried like a baby. There, I said it.
BFish Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 we all cried then david ... my eye caught the horse as it made the charge. Every hole opened, horses moved and they had the the big "mo". what a great finish.
Matts_12GS Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I know what you mean. It's the only horse race I watch, and I cringe every time. When that one horse died in the race a year or two ago, I cried like a baby. There, I said it. I know what you mean David. For me it goes back to the greyhound we rescued. A great, gentle dog. We took him to the track one day... Rescue families are invited to bring their dogs in for a day's celebration and to help market the rescues. We were doing a pass in review kind of walk down the front straight at the track, walking in the dirt when my boy HurleyBuggs stopped dead center squatted and pooped hugely right there to show his disdain for dog racing. He's chasing rabbits for fun in some celestial meadow, but I still miss that dog daily.
Bheckel169 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 They are all purebreds...thoroughbreds, but I know what you meant. It's always fun to see the long shot win and what's amazing is that he hung back in dead last position for the longest time before he shot forward like a rocket. It's a shame the announcer wasn't more focused on the race instead of the favorites or he would have noticed this horse and his amazing come from behind achievement. In fact, the horse was 4 lengths in front before the announcer could figure out what horse it was. Really bad call by the announcer but a great race. Bruce
azkaisr Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Yeah the announcer blew the call for sure. But I have watched the race about 4 times now and it is really pretty amazing to think he was that far behind and ran up the rail. The Jockey is just one of those people you really like to see be successful too.
LandonBlueRT Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 race Cars, not animals! nonetheless, I'm always glad to see the purebred lose. Purebed? Hmm, I thought all of them were thoroughbreds, including the winner.
DavidEBSmith Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 They're all thoroughbreds, but it's worth noting that the winner is a gelding. So much for enjoying the fruits of his labors. Just some nice oats for you, pal.
Rinkydink Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 My favorite part was the media showing all the millionaire owners pre-race with their smug mightier than though faces. Hmmm, post-race they were nowhere to be found. Off to the Bently I guess. Sweet revenge although I was really pulling for the school principal's steed.
