Matts_12GS Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 With all due respect... You suck! I am so jealous... Reminds me of the line from the John Hiatt song "How bad's the coffee, how good's the pie?"
Kathy R Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Thanks for posting your pie tale. The pie was almost scary to look at, for me, first thing in the morning. Carmel makes me think of the dentist. Idyllic camping scene. I am jealous too.
Whip Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 (eat your heart out Whip) Hey John I think I've been there. With you. Thanks for the reminder.
Twisties Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I can't remember what kind a pie I had there.... ohhhh, can Bullett see this.... I mean I can't remember any pie there. Nice ride! Who was your companion?
johnlt Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 Hey John I think I've been there. With you. Thanks for the reminder. Yep, we did go there when we rode with Pat Hayes through the woods. Jan, I rode with Phil Curtis, a Tucson snow-bird from Mich. Excellent rider. Rides a GS, a KTM 690E and a KTM 525. I can't keep up with him on any of his bikes! Good guy
tpanhuis Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 That pie and location looks great--hope the glass of milk was'nt $4 like alaska--have fun. Ted
VinnyR11 Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I must be getting old. Forget the bike and scenery photos. I'd like more pie pics!
CoarsegoldKid Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Okay already. How many miles of dirt does one need to ride on their RT to get to this destination. We may be riding in the area later this year.
johnlt Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 Okay already. How many miles of dirt does one need to ride on their RT to get to this destination. We may be riding in the area later this year. If you're coming from the south at Lake Roosevelt off of hwy 188, hwy 288 is 49 miles to Young of which about half is dirt. If you're coming from the north off of hwy 260, 288 goes south to Young and is about 25 miles of which most is dirt.
azkaisr Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Okay already. How many miles of dirt does one need to ride on their RT to get to this destination. We may be riding in the area later this year. Joe, come in from the South and it is REALLY easy for an RT to make it. A lot of that section is pretty much paved or as they are laying a new version of asphalt in Arizona, they are taking the old and rolling it along the road to Young. There is maybe about 15+ miles of hard packed road that you will be riding with the rest paved. Going North out of Young, you will hit some more traditional Arizona Fire Roads that have some loose rock on it, but no sand or anything. Just need to go slow. Rolled asphalt (note there are no markings on this section of road) and do look for potholes. The Dirt Part North of Young up on the Rim Hope that helps amigo
ian408 Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 That pie? Reason enough. Beautiful pictures and a nice tale!
