bigwally Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 searched but found no previous thread on this topic. got new riding boots and they're a tight squeeze to get under the shifter. how do i adjust the shifter upwards slightly? thx for guidance.
T__ Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Wally, you (can) move the shift lever position.. If you need a lot of change you can just re-position the shift lever on the splined shaft (kind of behind the side plate for access).. For smaller adjustments you can climb up under the bike & remove the little rod between the shifter & the trans lever (there are spring clips that hold that rod onto the balls).. Pull the spring clips,, then remove & change the length of that rod to suit your foot position.. Pain to get to unless you have a bike lift.. Twisty
PlaneGeek Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 When i first got the RT I was riding around in my 12 year old combat boots (sorry, they fit great and protected me really well in the rain). A few months ago a sprung from some 'real riding boots' and noticed the same thing about trying to get used to the taller toe. After about a week or so of riding the gap felt normal. I just needed to dip my toe a little more...
jakfrost Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I cut mine in half and made a channel bracket extender about 4" long with a slot along the center. Drilled a hole in each end of the now '2 piece' gear shifter lever for a 1/4" bolt. Put the '4" channel' bracket behind the 2 piece shifter and bolt it all together. Now you can slide the 2 pieces out or in the channel and when you have it where you like it just tighten up the bolts. I needed about an inch longer than stock to easily get my Daytona boot toe under the shifter. Works like a charm now :-) Jim
hopz Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Geeze, this must be going around... I got new boots too, and did the shifter- shift yesterday. Remove the left side peg mounting assembly and the shifter shaft is right there, easy to get to. The only issue is if you have a female socket to fit the Torx 40 bolt. You need to remove the bolt not just loosen. Then pick a spline that fits. Off 'n on... 5 minutes. I took a measurement before removing the shifter from the original location. That allowed me to judge when I had enough position change to the new location. By the way, I had been in tactical boots (jump boots) before the new ones too. Removal of the peg holding plate is a 5 minute job.
