Supermoto Riding

I recently posted about turning one of my motorcycles into a poor man's supermoto bike. It's a blast to ride and I was wondering how many other riders on here have tried it. I just finished signing up for a Supermoto USA school that will be at Infineon Raceway on May the 15th, and I've enclosed a link below in case anybody here would like to try it. I'm going to ride my own bike and save some money. If anyone has questions, I can try to answer them. Maybe I'll see some of you riders there. The second link is a short video of what supermoto riding is like.

I got to ride this last summer, what a blast!

DRZ 400 with some trick brake and suspension parts.

The bike belongs to the gentleman in this pic. Don't let the silver hair fool you, this guy won two different class championships that year doing this! And the sweet looking young woman could flat haul butt, glad they stopped and waited for me!

I will never complain about the seat on my Beemer- after 200 miles of twisties my butt hurt bad, seat felt like a square chunk of wood, probably rode the last 25 miles standind up!

About the most fun you can have with your clothes on!

Looks like fun.

Since I'm a dirt poor loser, I can't afford to take the class, but if I can get off work, I'll come down and be your umbrella boy.

I have an aftermarket seat on mine, and it's a blast to ride.

Thanks Andy, but it will cost you to get in on Friday as they will have some racing going on at the big track.

Where's that drooling icon again?

Man that is sweet!

Thanks, it's not too bad for a seventeen year old bike. And it's weighs under three hundred pounds.

I've been wanting something like this for a bike to drag up to the mountains to ride, maybe to use as a commuter or something.

How's the range on it?

Exactly what I had in mind as well. Some riders claim they get between 65-70 mpg with it, but I have yet to confirm it. If that is true, with it's 2.5 gallon tank it should be good for a nice ride. I also have my old 4 gallon plastic Clark tank for it if I need longer legs.

It is absolutely a blast to ride.

Sounds like a blast, but a lot of us have plans to be in Utah that weekend. Some little town called Torrey, I think.

BTW, as I type this I've just finished Day 1 of a 2-day Motoventures off-road "training tour" at Ocotillo Wells, CA. Fun, but very hard work!

Hey Bill,

How's that working out for you? I'm all for training. With my wife working most weekends and me taking care of our seven year old son, I'm lucky if I can get away for a day.

Well, I learned a lot, but I've still got some issues to work on. Unfortunately, the riding aggravated an old back injury (I was worried that it would), and I was unable to ride on the second day.

Gary's a fantastic rider and a pretty good teacher. He's nowhere near the level of, say, Keith Code as a teacher, in my opinion. But he's not very expensive, either.

Sounds like you need a muscle relaxer and some ice. Good job giving it a shot!
