Wingco Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 At a recent track day where headlights had to be switched off I removed the connections to the bulbs to achieve this. However, I was told by a man who seemed convincing that the Headlights can be switched off using a combination of the indicator cancel and the right indicator selector. I cannot make this work does anyone know the secret?
marcopolo Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Try this link. Although for the GS, it works on my '06 RT. http://www.r1200gs.info/misc/tricks.html Demo on YouTube (also for GS).
JayW Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 With the bike idling in neutral, press and hold the signal cancel button for 5 seconds, then the right turn signal button for 5 seconds. The low beams will go out. You can get them going again by cycling the ignition key. I do this at track days and it works great. Jay
99Roadster Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Keep in mind with the latest firmware updates as soon as the bike starts moving it will turn back on. Found this out after a ZFE replacement and the current firmware installed.
TestPilot Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 My 2007 R1200ST had a software update when it was in for service 3 weeks ago. I checked earlier today, and I need to be stationary to shut off the headlamps, but they remain off when I start moving again.
Wingco Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 Thanks for all the info guys it works!! The original info I had failed to mention idling in Neutral what a wonderful resource this site is
krussell Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Keep in mind with the latest firmware updates as soon as the bike starts moving it will turn back on. Found this out after a ZFE replacement and the current firmware installed. I was very disappointed to try this only to have them go out as soon as I started moving. I wish they stayed off. Likely a legal/perceived safety issue motivated the change.
