Indy Dave Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I am needing to mount this MP3 player somewhere on the bike where I can reach it and read it. Any ideas? I do have 2 unused ball mounts but am not familiar enough to know what might finish the equation as far as a holder or something to mount to the balls. Here's the player and also my dash layout. Any ideas?? thanks, dave
wbrissette Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I would try finding a GPS holder that is slightly larger than the unit, or something that has a flat back with a RAM Mount. You can then add velcro to both items and pretty much not have to worry about it on the road. There is a very large assortment of RAM mounts out there, I'm sure you can find something. Wayne
flars Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 RAM offers a flat plate mount - Aerostich shows it in their catalog. I would then use velcro. I have had my XM radio mounted using normal velcro (not duo lock, or heavy duty or anything else that is special) to a RoadyHolder for the last 50,000 miles, so I know the velcro thing works well. Probably helps with the vibration, too.
hopz Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I would get a Garmin Zumo with an SD card and play all my mp3s through that...
Albert Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 You might want to see if it will fit in one of the RAM Aqua Boxes like this. Made for RAM mounts and provides weather protection for the player. They make them in different sizes. http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/ram/ram.asp?prod=RAM-AB2
Indy Dave Posted April 29, 2009 Author Posted April 29, 2009 Great ideas and leads, thanks all. Hopz - At some point I might go that way, but I use ear plugs, so going through the GPS adds complication to the project at this point. (I have the NAV III). I wish the Zumo would play lossless formats. I guess I could get an ipod and use the special connector and run it through the bike controls - I like that idea - but again it gets more complicated then I may want to mess with right now. Plus I'd have to format change my tunes to! Arughh! I guess at that point, I'd want to try to integrate my phone and the GPS, but probably with ear plugs - not sure about helmet speakers as far as noise blocking. I am certainly intrigued by the integration options, almost to the point of being overwhelmed with options and nearing obsolescence of my current GPS.
stubble! Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Before the zumo, I kept an mp3 player in the side pocket of my tankbag it worked ok, a little tough to get to under way though. I love the zumo now, won't go back.
Bradley_Gillie Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I'm assuming you don't have the radio option. If you want something simple, you could just use velcro tape on the speaker grill. By the way, nice avatar.
Todd_Z1 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 You might try these mounts. I have two of them and they are worth every penny. They are light weight, rock solid and fully adjustable. I use Velcro on the back of my Sansa MP3 player and V1 and on the mounting plate and it works perfectly. http://www.techmounts.com/ Cheers! Todd

By the way, nice avatar. Thanks Bradly!! Actually, I do have the radio/cd option. I have used the player in my jacket pocket. That's fine as long as I don't need to adjust the volume. Velcro seems to be the next option, then maybe a 'flat' table mount. I have used a velcro tie to hold it (well, a smaller player)on the tank rail, but with with the tank bag on (which I hardly use) that option disappears. But i guess I could velcro it to that. One of the issues is getting the player mounted so I can see the screen. It's a touch screen, so using a velcro tie like I do for my other player interferes with operation. (the small player I have you can't read for s*%t while on the road.

BeemerLover Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 +1 to velcro. I have had nothing come loose that was velcroed on. Never. On the other hand I have had things that "snap" into holders come loose because I hadn't pushed them exactly into place. The best mount I have used for farkles has been an aluminum plate that was attached to the back (windshield side) of my tank bag and to which I velcroed a GPS and other things. I had electrified my tank bag and ran everything off that. The beauty of that setup was that I could just unhook my tank bag, unplug it from the 12v otulet and walk into a restaurant with all my expensive farkles.

By chance, do you have a pic of your set up?? I love the stop and carry feature. thx dave
BeemerLover Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Be glad to, Dave. Will PM them to you as I don't have the tech savvy to put photos in my posts. Well I just tried and the pm system won't let me attach photos either. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send them to you. BTW, the aluminum plate I put on is the size of my Nuvi 200w. It could be much larger and still be stable. The connector on the tank bag is an RV SAE Roof connector. $5.00 at this site: http://www.solarseller.com/low_voltage_dc_pumps__lvm__teel__accessories__plugs_and_extensions.htm
