Super Cart School

I don't post very much on this site, but I finally did something that must be shared.

Last week my sister gave me a four-hour super kart session for my birthday at Bondurant Kart School in Phoenix. Now, I've ridden go-karts at other places, but shifter carts are in a class all to themselves. Oh, my sister also took part in the shifter cart course.

Speed

The guys teaching the session said that these carts are full race shifter carts and are capable of speeds up to 100 mph; however, the straight away we used would only allow you to reach 80 mph. I didn't hit 80 mph, but they said I probably hit 65-70. The track was about 1/3 of a mile; it included a little of everything: off-camber turn, sweeper, tight corner and a great straight-away.

Fun Factor

Off the scale! I never had so much fun going around corners in my life. The acceleration and handling is amazing for these 125cc carts. The transmission was a 6 speed sequential gearbox. Once you're in the powerband, which is around 12k RPMs, ripping through the gears is quick and exhilerating.

Kart School Linky

I was sore the next day, but that soreness reminded me of all of the fun racing around at ludicrous speeds  I was going to buy a M3 for some fun on the roads, but now I may just put that money towards more shifter cart sessions.

It's not something I would do every day, but it's definately one of those yearly things I must do.

Please stop posting stuff like this. I don't need another expensive addiction. The sportbike track days are already cutting into my heroin money...what'll I have to give up if I get into shifter carts?

My first time on the track was doing the Keith Code school at Firebird. We were talking to someone about the carts...I forget the details, but they said the shifter carts will lap the Corvettes every 3 laps (or something like that) on the big track at Firebird.

I've never heard anything bad about shifter karts other than they are addicting, and most people I know come back as stoked as User after trying them out.

My friend "talked me into" going with him this summer. He's in great shape, and also said he was as sore as anything after his sessions.
