Day 4...

After getting Mama Hoon hugs and attending this very excellent party I headed ENE from San Diego destination PHX. There was really only one problem... Whilst my "old" friends in FL were bribing Jamie to keep me out there, my new friend Frieda was really sad that I was leaving. Here, she sits between me and door blocking access to my system case.

I had been reading the thread of riding the Glass Elevator and after talking with Stir and Jim Moore I decided to ride Sunrise Highway up to Julian and then on through Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

Heading up Sunrise, I found my first issue of concern, a "Snowplow Working" sign! Did I mention that I'm from FL?

The roads and area are beautiful and the pine forest just smells heavenly!

The views in the Cleveland Nat'l Forest are great, and it's very very different from North Florida.

I pop in to Julian in time for lunch, but I eschew the pie even though I did have an extra cup of LA's Community coffee since it's Fat Tuesday. I guess I need to come back for pie...

Heading out toward the desert, I find some awesome views from the glass elevator as well as out in the park.

Looking out at the elevator;

I spent a lot of time riding with this guy on the trip. We kept finding each other.

After a few last photos it was time to get on the road in earnest. I hoofed it out to Hwy 86 and up to Mecca and through what I think was called Box Canyon Road? I thought Jamie was setting me up for teaching Frieda Ride Smart knowing he'll have to get her a bike now. :rofl:

There was a lot of sand in the apexes at first but then the road began to clear out and instead of sand there were canyon walls at the edge of the road. I felt much better about that. I would have taken photos but it was late and I was having fun hauling arse about the canyon hearing a Slim Pickens type voice in my head yelling "we got'im now boys, that's a box canyon, he can't escape!"

But, escape I did, right on to I-10 where I took advantage of the lack of traffic to just one more time put up a ton on the GPS on a CA highway. :thumbsup:

I'm still thinking there may be one of those coming from AZ DPS from one of their Photo Enforcement zones. We'll see...

Glass Elevator has been on my "to do" list and now I've added Box Canyon Road. Great pics and am waiting on the rest of the tale.

Added some duct tape to my travel kit to keep up with the latest in fashion.

No post card, no phone call. I'm starting to develop a complex. :P

It's okay, I couldn't deal with the scene, & was home by three. :)
