Ken H.
Rick Newman of Yahoo Finance just compiled a list based on Moody’s info of the top 15 companies most likely to not be here this time next year, Sirius is on the list. The others: Rite Aid Claire's Stores Chrysler Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Realogy Corp Station Casinos Loehmann's Capital Corp Sbarro Pizza Six Flags Blockbuster Video Krispy Kreme Landry's Restaurants Trump Entertainment Resorts Holdings BearingPoint For what it's worth... Lone_RT_rider
NOOOOOOOO Not Krispy Kreme............... Ohhh the inhumanity....... Yeah, you can tell the Rick Newman might not have spent much time in the South. KK is treasured institution here. I personally am not a fan, but I am pretty sure there are villagers and locals planning a torch yielding march to run Duncan Donuts out of town on a rail. KK go under? Not likely.... rdwalker
That is the problem with stock-based investment. You do not turn a profit in 3 months, the stockholders bail and the company goes bust. Hardly a prescription for long-term growth - as demonstrated recently by all kinds of industries. For the motorcycling community that is going to be a great loss. There is no source of radio programming that spans long distances and provides news, entertainment and weather/traffic - and with no commercials. There is no real alternative to sat radio and the terrestial broadcasters, I believe, are already chilling their champagne. Link to comment
markgoodrich
I read an article in Slate tonight, suggesting that sat customers switch to the Internet, to sites such as Pandora, via their iphones. I don't have an iphone. I'm not getting an iphone. But apparently you can hook the iphone up to the intertube and ride around listening to music. Link to comment
rdwalker
Does not surprise you, does it? Slate people think everyone spends their days at local Starbucks Wi-Fi hotspot. Let me get this straight: Sat radio: $12+/month. GSM data service $60?/month. Sat radio: everywhere. GSM data service: mostly in urban areas, not along your trip route. Obviously, one has to not know what sat radio is about to make such suggestion. Link to comment
Tetz
There are several interested parties who are bidding on the company. Sat. radio is here to stay. The debt of the company is due next week.......so just keep an eye out for what happens next week. Link to comment

I've found myself in many areas where there's barely terrestrial radio, much less 3G GSM phone service, and satellite radio is there. Not to mention, riding around sucking down streaming data over your iPhone, how long until you hit the 5GB data cap that AT&T has imposed? Link to comment
Bheckel169
I just hope it isn't Charlie Ergen of Echostar who gets his hands on it. I've had personal dealings with his company and him and let's just say, I'm not thrilled with the way he does business. Bruce Link to comment
mswanton
Siri at $.10 a share? Wow.I hope they make it.I've got $100 riding on it. I think they will have competition from the iphone. I was quoted unlimited data for $30 a month. My phone cost $10 a month anyway so I think $20 to have the internet in my pocket is a bargain. When I'm out of G3 range I can switch to the 8gig mp3 player built in. Link to comment

Troy
I'm no corporate lawyer, but my understanding is that they will go into Chapter 11 mainly so they can renegotiate some of those huge contracts they signed when Sirius & XM were in competition with each other. Stern's contract is multi-gazillion dollars, then there is Ophra and Martha Stewart and all the sports contracts as well. I also read that EchoStar holds the paper on most of their debt, very possible they will end up owning the whole thing. Link to comment

Sidmariner
Whew! I'm glad Sirius/XM have been given a lifeline. I hate the idea of having to disassemble the kit on my accessory shelf and then having to search through the din of commmercial radio channels to find something to listen to when I'm travelling. My iPod is fine for a while, but I really enjoyed the service I got from Sirius. As a Canuck, I really appreciated the ability to regularly tune into the CBC and BBC for actual world news, something sadly missing on the commercial networks. Link to comment

Bullett
Bad timing, I know, but I've been thinking about adding the XM antenna to my Zumo for the weather information (but I'm sure I'll also listen to muscic). Do you think there will be service providers out there if Sirius/XM goes out of business? I can pick up the antenna for about $120, but given the uncertainty about providers, I am reluctant to take the plunge. What do you think? Link to comment

Bud
SIRIUS XM also plans to hold a conference call at 8:00 am ET on March 17, 2009 to discuss its financial and operating results. Investors and the press can listen to the conference call via the company's website, www.sirius.com, and on its satellite radio service by tuning to SIRIUS channel 126 or XM channel 90.
