Bob Lawrence
Hello fellow BMW riders... My wife and I are currently planning a three week trip to Italy this coming Sep/Oct. We are looking at a few days in Rome to settle into the time zone and then we want to rent a motorcycle and do a loop of the suthern boot clockwise. So far I have found a few rental companies but the prices usually include a tour. I started looking for a Home/Motorcycle exchange option but so far have found nothing that exists... Well the home exchange exists but nothing about motorcycle exchanges. So I thought I would post this knowing many of you may have already done some international motorcycle travel and we would like to know if anyone has heard of any motorcycle exchange options. Mr_Yuk
We are doing a tour of Tuscany this year and we are renting motorcycles from CIMT. Francesco is the owner and is very nice, speaks escellent English. If you inquire with him, please tell him that Rod Powell recommended him. It might help. Rod Link to comment
Bob Lawrence
Thank you for the tip... What motorcycle are you renting during your trip? Link to comment
Mr_Yuk
Julie and I are each renting a Ducati ST3. Also in our group will be a Ducati Multistrada (unless it gets traded for an ST3) and a couple on a 2009 R1200RT. Rod Link to comment
Bob Lawrence
The planning continues... We are close to a route now, Had to extend the motorcycle portion of the trip... yeaaa!for me.... 10 days to get from Rome east across Italy to the coast and then all the way around the boot back to Rome. 1400mi in 10 days with two nights in positano on the return... Still have not found a great deal on a bike though. The best so far is a R1100RT for 1040 euro. Link to comment
Francois_Dumas
1040 Euro is not bad. Most places in Europe will set you back 1200 Euros for 7 days approximately, and that often doesn't include unlimited kilometers! Make sure you know how many kilometers a day are included, what an extra (kilometer!) costs and if VAT is included. There is also a (often very high) 'guarantee' to be paid up front and you may need extra insurance. Link to comment
litigator
We rented twice from Mototouring in Milan. I think they may have bikes in Rome as well. Nice people and a nice R1150RT both times. Link to comment
TyTass
My SO and I are finally getting around to a long-put off Italian trip. Francois previously provided the links above. Anyway, we're doing Rome for a few days, then Florence, and plan on going to relax a while in a villa in Tuscany or Umbria. How a motorcycle is going to fit into this vacation, I'm no longer certain. As much of our trip is going to be spent winery hoping, I'm not so certain an m/c is a good choice anyway. Good post. I'll keep reading here. Link to comment

bigmak
Hi Bigmak, long time nosee ! ? Howdy, time flies. Hindsight tells me I let life "do to me" these last 5 years, rather than make solid choices. That's getting behind me, but time will tell how "stimulating" the future will be. (oops, am I being political???) At least I'm applying for my first passport, to hopefully explore more of the world some day. Link to comment
