CoarsegoldKid
On Friday while I was in Los Angeles I received a call from Heck inquiring about a Sunday shop ride. I got back to him on Saturday with the particulars of that agenda and we decided on a different course of action. Heck and I would ride the foothills of Madera and Mariposa Counties. So on this cool clear beautiful day we did. Worth mentioning is we are sorry many of you folks are stuck in a big chill. Maybe this short tale will wet your appitite as soon as the ice melts. Electric heaters were not used in the making of this ride. I was in summer gear. Few cars or bikes were seen on the road today. It must be the Super Bowl parties keeping the roads clear. We only saw one CHP late in the day and he was ticketing a Prius driver. Imagine that! I led Heck through the local area near home on Ben Hur Road. After getting through the twisties we stopped at a cattle loading ramp I find always makes a good knee stretching spot. Three pick-up trucks drove past in the twenty minutes or so we were there. Also a bull walked closely past on the other side of the fence. The big fellow was bellowing loudly has he walked. Nut sac swinging side to side keeping time with the bellowing. Or maybe as Heck so aptly pointed out that's the cause for the bellowing. In a quick moment he paused, scratched the soft wet earth, throwing divots of grass rearward, ceased bellowing lifted his tail and editorialized his discontent. Twenty yards later he was ruffing the water trough. Today that's probably a 15 yard penalty. There was no replay or discussion on the play. Then he continued as before swinging bellowing and walking on in the warming sun lit field. We ate a late breakfast in Mariposa. Then headed towards Coulterville on the famous CA-49 section called the Little Dragon. Still no bikes. Coulterville normally crowded with American Iron was deserted. Not stopping we turned West on CA-132 to connect with a road comprised of sweeping turn after sweeping turn towards Merced Falls. Just before Merced Falls we take the Hornitos road to of all places "Hornitos". This section was repaved last September. It has a few placed where the rear end gets light in the woop-de-doos and the changing elevations and blind curves makes for a cheerful yet technical ride. We pit stopped in the extremely small Hornitos. Once a bustling ruff and tumble community during the gold rush days of the California. The only fuel in town is alcohol. We soaked in some solar energy. Continuing on to Mariposa to complete the loop then heading back home the Super Bowl was only one hour away. Heck and I shook hands to a good ride in Oakhurst and he hightailed it down CA-41. I took an alternate scenic route home and refueled making ready the bike for the next outing. Someone has to do it! Not as much damage to the shoulder as was first thought, which is a real plus. She's now going thru the rehab process...I am learning many new words... Link to comment
