Heard and seen it before......

Some of the things I heard this evening sounded very familiar....

... and much of the 'mood' that was shown to us through the eyes of many cameras and correspondents also looked and 'felt' very familiar.

* "Let the word go forth.....that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans."

 

* "Let every nation know... that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

 

* "The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life."

 

* "Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate."

 

* "And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"

 

* "All this will not be finished in the first 100 days. Nor will it be finished in the first 1,000 days, nor in the life of this Administration, nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin."

 

* "...let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own."

No, those are not Obama's words.... but close enough. Those are parts of JFK's speech !

 

I was only 8 years old at the time, when in November 1960 JFK 'moved' the nation in much a similar fashion as Obama seems to do now.

Then too it was a troubled time... not so much economical, but with the cold war at a high point and Russia threatening with nuclear war via Cuba.

 

I still remember I was scared...... and hopeful when Kennedy was elected. We had the Russians only a couple 100 km away from us. And they were crazy, as were many other frenzied dictators east of us at the time.

 

I hope for the US, but also for the rest of the free world, and especially for our children, that today is the beginning of an improving world, however difficult that will prove to be !

Words don't mean much to me anymore.

 

Let's see what happens, often the times make the man.
