Shock question

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 RT without ESA and a regular height seat on low position. I only ride one up. I am approx 5'7" and comfortable on the balls of my feet. However, when I am at a stop on a slight hill I am not so comfortable. I just got the bike and have not had much time to adjust or check out the shock adjustments. What if anything can I do or how so I have the shocks set to help with being comfortable even at a stop on a hill.

I am not looking to get the lower shock option and I know about the lower seat but rather not do that since I eventually will go with a better comforatble seat option.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Robyn

I guess I am bit confused. I am assuming the problem is you have issues reaching the ground? You should not be adjusting the suspension to sag more in order to get lower to the ground. The suspension should be set for the riding otherwise the bike will feel like a giant marshmellow. The low shock kit and low seat options get the feet to the ground lower without affecting the ride. My dealer told me that the aftermarket companies that build saddles prefer you to have the low or regular seat based on where you want the seat becasue they only want to remove so much from the stock saddle. Not sure as i havent verified. Also my understanding is the low and regular seat have the same pan. Someone here may be able to confirm.

If you have heated seats (that work) and are in good condition, I have the low seat option on my 1200RT and would prefer the regular. If you want to do a swap, PM me.

How should the shocks be set for one up riding?

I do want to get lower to the ground for those hill stops Not sure how I will accomplish that without getting lower shocks (not perferred)or higher heels.

A friend of mine has the lower seat option I am going to try that out and see if it helps.

Don't assume that you want an aftermarket seat yet. Try the low seat. I am using it and have no complaints with it whatsoever. Seats are very subjective--what works for one is torture for another, etc. Also, many aftermarket seats are famous for *decreasing* ground reach because they are wider in the front thigh area than the OEM's, spreading your legs more, and thus decreasing your ground reach. You should test-ride (or at least test-sit) an aftermarket seat before spending that kind of money, if at all possible.

And welcome to the funny farm!

Hi. I slide one bum off the seat at almost every stop, and even then I'm often on the ball of one foot. If there's an incline, I slide off the "uphill" side.
