elkroeger
I got a pair of these the other day. They lack the usual heel and toe counters that make shoes so unwieldy in a saddlebag, so they take up VERY little room. Not much larger than my flip-flops, really. They're pretty lightweight too. http://www.rei.com/product/774921 Link to comment
jslyter
Finding sneakers that don't take up much trunk space is like the Holy Grail for me, but from looking at the pictures of these, I don't get what you mean about the heel and toe counters. These don't look like they would take up any less space than my New Balance from the pictures. Figured I'd ask, even though I'll go to REI and check them out in person. Link to comment
elkroeger
That's what they're called - "heel counter". It's the semi rigid piece that keeps the upper from folding down at the back of the shoe. Boots mostly have toe counters too. They're absent on these shoes. Also the material used for the upper is rather thin (as far as shoes go). So they flatten out like a pancake. They appeal to me, 'cause (as in your observation) they pretty well just look like a plain old sneaker... I dunno, go have a looksee. Link to comment

rdwalker
Just like jslyter says, finding packable sneakers is the Holy Grail. My closet is full of examples that failed the test. Thanks for the hint, I'll check out the REI product. Link to comment
