Post pictures of your mounted gadgets.

I'm trying to decide where to mount my GPS (Garmin V)and Roady sat. radio. I'm thinking of adding the J&M intercom CB, but that would mount on the left handlebar. Thought about using a Hoon mount for the roady, or maybe both on a RCU shelf. Center of the handlebars seems good for the GPS.

Looking for pic's to help me decide!

Please post your pics and suggestions of how you mounted your gadgets!

On my R1200C...

console1.jpg

On the left grip is an XM Roady satellite radio, a RemoteRemote2 wireless iPod controller, Motolight switch, and the Kenwood GMRS 2-way radio on a RAM mount.

In the center is a Garmin 2610 (2gb memory) also on a RAM mount, and the Kisan ChargeGuard

On the right grip is an original style ThrottleRocker, a Glisson amplified antenna for the Garmin, and an extra RAM mount (to mount a CB radio or cell phone).

Lots of toys

The internal antenna in the Garmin unit works fine. When I ride in NYC, in the concrete canyons, the external antenna does a better job. So, I plug it in only when I find the unit having a marginal signal.

I forgot to mention that all the applicable toys are piped into an AutoCom unit (there is a PTT button for the 2-way radio on the left grip).

All the toys are mounted relatively low, out of my line of site, as I look over the Saeng winglet mounted atop an AeroFlow screen. The thing in the middle of the screen is an EZ-Pass for local toll roads.

FWIW, I hate the RCU shelf on my 04 RT. I run an SP3, which might be slightly heavier than the V, but the shelf can't take it at all. Hitting any kind of bump causes the shelf to deflect. I have actually broken two Garmin mounts from vibration stress - one original, and one aviation/tilt mount. In both cases I had the GPS attached with a lanyard - otherwise I'd have lost it.

I have been told by one other board member that his RCU was "solid as a rock". After further investigation, though, he had an 1100RT, and the mounting is completely different.

It's pricey, but as far as I'm concerned the best unit out there is the Gadget Guy mount ( web site, photo gallery). It puts the GPS at eye level, which is nice.

BMR Products also makes a shelf system ( web site).

I like RAM mounts, too - they're rock solid. And, if you ever change bikes, most of the system can go with you.

My $0.02, YMMV

That is an amazing set up. Do you ride our lovely northern NJ roads with all those gadgets operating? There is always someone trying to insert a 20' SUV in the space between you and the car in front of you, at least here in NJ.

rdsmith,

Yes, I ride northern NJ and NY roads. And YES, you really have to keep your wits about you < s >

That said, I probably spend less time looking at my console than many other people on this forum... after all, the R1200C doesn't a gear indicator, tachometer or fuel gauge to distract me < vbg >

Then again, there are those pesky blinking lights for turn signals and ABS warnings.

No wait... that odometer is distracting too!

And the speedometer ... that should be outlawed!!!!

So I designed a minimalist console for my cruiser.

Come to think of it, the key is distracting...

But truth be told, I prefer all the toys < eg >

Same here with the Roadster, or at least no gear indicator or fuel gauge.

I did add a Formotion stick on thermometer, so that if I am sliding sideways I can look down and see if it is cold enough for it to be ice. ooo.gif

A Blue Sea Systems 5025 six circuit fuse block mounted to an aluminium bracket that I made. That bracket was then riveted to the diagnotic plug bracket.

It fits nicely between the gas tank and seat. Connecting accessories is now a snap.

I prefer the ratty/industrial look. Those are my bling switches on the left and my RID gadget on the right. I used to have a headlight on a custom aluminum bracket under the handlebars, but that's gone these days.

Anyone have a compass they'd recommend ?

I am trying to resist the GPS (on bike anyway) as generally I know the detail but like to vary the route.

I tried a couple different of the newer "electronic" compasses before going GPS with poor results. Seems to be too little metal in a bike to establish a ground reference plane.

I got tired of riding around in circles trying to calibrate the things! tongue.gif

a compass?

don't resist GPS any longer

a compass (and i have several) is something you use to find your way in a park... away from metal

at the very least... get some cheaper gps that has a compass built in/maybe you don't need mapping software

motorcycles and compasses don't mix (if accuracy is important to you)

i blew up the last one and have it on my desk at work. the picture was taken as a joke of course. many have joked that i should have had my hand in my jacket, ala Napoleon

my favorite is the 3rd picture because it reminds me of why i should never wear RED

it's embarrassing to see the avatar picture and that one taken only 1 year later (maybe a 15# weight gain).

All I have to offer is my 276c mount thumbsup.gif

Front view with the sexy Akira boot screen (that no one ever notices bncry.gif)

Utilising the marine mount that comes with the GPS thumbsup.gif

276c_mount.jpg

Rear view , its adjustable for angle by loosening a set screw.

276c_rear_view.jpg

The GPS was a pig to mount with the cable plugged in until I ground a section off the r/h side of the marine mount.

You can see my 276C mounted on an R12RT using a Motorrad Concepts mount HERE .

I'm very pleased with this arrangement. The Motorrad Concepts (MC) piece is very well made and solid, so the GPS is pretty much isolated from the bounce and vibration I've experienced with other mounting systems. The cradle from the Garmin marine mount that comes with the 276/376 units attaches to the MC mount with no modifications. The MC mount attaches easily to the R12RT - agian, no modifications or drilling required.
