John Ranalletta
I have a taped conversation with my mother that I want to convert to a digital file or dvd for sharing with my boys. I'm running Vista Business w/ Memorex DVD recorder. There is also a CD writer. TIA Link to comment
jfremder
For a clean analog copy of an audio file, plug the earphone out on the tape player into the line-in on your computer. Use the app Sound Recorder (located in accessories/entertainment on the start menu) and set the input properties to line in. You can then save/convert the output to an .mp3 that will copy to a CD and play in most DVD players. Link to comment

RadioShack sells an attenuator cable that reduces the signal level appropriately. Link to comment
John Ranalletta
Thanks, it did work fine though it took a while to figure out that the web cam/speaker had to be disconnected before the recording could be made. I used a shareware converter to create the mp3. Link to comment
stubble!
Cool stuff. I recently digitized some recordings of a great uncle singing and playing guitar. A treasure for the family. Link to comment
