Word 2007 Issues

I am trying to get used to Word 2007, and have had a couple of troublesome issues with the transition from Word 2003.

First, after minimizing it, I cannot figure out how to maximize the program again (which should be a simple thing, right?). If I right-click on the name of the program at the bottom of my screen, there is an option to "minimize group" if it has not already been minimized. However, there is no "maximize group" option. I can only maximize/cascade/tile the indivudual documents.

Secondly, I am having to do a lot of clicks to get started on each document. Typically, I create all my documents from templates I have created on my own. I do this by first clicking on the OFFICE BUTTON, then NEW, then MY TEMPLATES, then scroll down to the particular template I want. Is there any way to make a shortcut to MY TEMPLATES in the quick access tool bar or otherwise streamline this process?

Thanks for any help.

For what it's worth, I de-installed 2007 and reverted to 2003 because I couldn't stand it. A lot of features you used to access through menus are now either buried in toolbars or right-clickable. It has a NASTY learning curve.

Sorry, can't help you with your questions. Just had to rant.

Yeah, I am beginning to feel the same way. I AM getting better with it over time, but there are some very irritating changes from the earlier versions, and so far I am not appreciating the "improvements". I keep thinking it is just me, but apparently I am not alone.

I tried minimizing and maximizing my Word 2007, and it worked the same as any other program on my computer. I know that if you have several Word documents open at the same time, when you click at the bottom of the screen it will list the open documents in a pop-up and you can select the one you want. I don't know if you're on Vista or not, but on Vista you also have the option of clicking the "switch between windows" icon on the botton of the screen which will splay all the open windows in an overlapping bunch and allow you to click on the one you want.

As far as your template is concerned, you can cause the one you use most often to open by default every time you open Word. If this would help you, let me know what version of Windows you're using and I'll let you know how to do that.

Dave:

Thanks for your response. I have Windows XP. I cannot get Word 2007 to maximize like all my other programs do.

I use a variety of templates throughout the day. I choose one from among about 20 templates that I have created which are all listed under MY TEMPLATES. With Word 2003 all I had to do was click on NEW, and my templates list would appear for me to choose from.

Another thing you could do is to create a folder on your desktop called "Word Templates." Open Word and create a blank document using the template you want. Give that blank document a name and save it in the folder on your desktop. Do the same thing with all the other templates you use. Whenever you want to open Word with a particular template, just click on the folder and then click on the one you want. Two clicks and you're where you want to be.

Just remember to save the document you open under a different name, so you have a blank document every time you click on one in your desktop folder.

I suppose that would work, Dave, but would only really help with my first document of the day. It would not save me any time with the subsequent 30+ documents I create throughout the day using other templates since I would have to minimize Word each time to get to the folder on my desktop. It seems to me that there ought to be a more elegant solution. I appreciate the idea though!
