wbrissette
I just got back from two long rides on my 2004 1150RT. One ride was 4000, the other 2400 miles. On both trips I noticed some oil coming from the oil filler cap area. Not enough to leave oil anywhere, or drop the oil level at all, just enough to always have a light coat on the top of the filler cap and occasionally spray on the legging area of the fairing. I'm thinking that either the cap itself, or the O-Ring on the cap is allowing the oil to escape. Both are cheap and inexpensive fixes. Any other thoughts? Wayne Link to comment

There are two O-rings, one on the filler plug and one under the filler body. I replace both every oil change. To replace the one under the body either just pull the body out with your finger, or if it too tight, remove the valve cover and push it out from the inside. Andy Link to comment
wbrissette
Thanks Andy. It's time to change the oil and do a 6K service anyhow, so I'll replace them. Wayne Link to comment
AnRSguy
I remove, clean and dry the filler cap O ring anytime I remove the cap. No more leaks. Give that a try. Link to comment
