IRPUK
I am about to switch from a 1150RT to a nice new 1200RT, the test ride was great and I am looking forward to getting it (and the deal was great). The question is, what can I expect, what are the niggles and what should I be be aware of? Given the help available on here and the advice from others, I wait with baited breath..... Link to comment
Albert
You can expect to need tires (tyres?) before you know it. Thinking back I believe the first item I added was an aftermarket windshield. I found the stock one a bit narrow for my taste. Link to comment

IRPUK, been there & done that.. You are going to really like the new non powered brakes,, will really like the lower weight,, will really like the new transmission ratios,, won’t mind the more engine power.. If you got the factory cruise control you will flat out love that.. The heated seat isn’t bad either.. Personally I like the frontal lighting better on the 1200RT than my older 1150RT.. At the top of my list of dislikes.. The mirrors on the 1200RT are almost useless & are positively useless if you have anything wide on the rear seat or have wide shoulders or big hands (the KRS mirrors on the handlebars will cure this though) There will be points in you riding day that the lighting is such that the dash such as spedo & computer screen will be unreadable.. (a very big wart on an otherwise great motorcycle) The canbus electrical system makes it a pain to install lighting or safety accessories but not impossible.. Minor problem but still bugs me.. Side stand is in a different place so easy to miss with your foot.. More difficult bike to wash & dry as it has a lot more nooks & crannies.. Doesn’t balance on the center stand as nice as the 1150 did.. More difficult to change the final drive & trans gear oil on the 1200RT then the older 1150RT.. My personal observation or wish.. If I could have the (late) 1200RT brakes,, lighter weight,, cruise control,, heated seats,, transmission ratios,, tank bag rack—on the R1150RT chassis I would be one happy motorcyclist.. keithb
Congrats on your new 1200. Twisty listed some of the niggles as you call them. I thought it was chewing up rubber faster than my K1100 but I recently put a set of ME880's and they seem to be wearing much better. With 3K miles on them they almost look like new. My overall view of this bike is that is better in every way vs. the 1100/1150. Lighter, faster, better tranny/gearing, cruise control, roomier saddle bags. One 20-30 minute test ride and I bought it on the spot and put a FOR SALE sign on my 1150 RT which I rode for 6 months. No regrets whatsoever. Enjoy!! Link to comment
