Yet another nOOb intro, RTP'er

As most of Y'all know, I like nOObs. I also like hanging out in the garage every chance I get. I also very much enjoy "paying it forward," as Jonathon Multhaup told me those many years ago when he did a one on one tech day with me. So after I introduced RTRuss in a thread here ,after teaching him how to do a service on his bike, another nOOb was looking for help.

After finally finding a hole in my schedule Tony came over to give his new (to him, its a 01) RT-P a little love. He also lives only about 15 minutes from me, but in the exact opposite direction from RTRuss.

Here, after pulling in, I get him properly caffinated. Priorities, after all...

Also, after some good conversation, I find out he is a "Dutchy!" He grew up in Amsterdam and left for here when he was still a teenager.

(Of course, I'm thinking: Great, just what we need around here, another Dutchy! :dopeslap: JK Francois!)

He asked, what are you going to do to my bike again? (I get that a lot ;) After meeting me, you can't really blame them for panicking slightly!)

So we changed all three oils, (eng. tran. FD)

and by then the heads were cool enough for a valve adjustment.

Here is where Tony got to learn the fine art, not science, of the BMW Oilhead valve creep. We finally got the valves where we wanted them. By this time the neighbor from down the street, who many of you remember from my tech Daze as the guy with the scooter and the two great bulldogs, had come up to get in on the action. He just bought a R1150R  and figured he wanted to be able to do this stuff to his bike soon.

Since we were at a good stopping point, and Jacqueline had come home a little earlier, the next logical step was:

After that short break, it was throttle body sync time:

(Jacqueline started taking the pictures at this point)

We hooked up the TwinMax:

While Steve did some kind of Babe Ruth impression?

Within a gnat's a$$!

So tupperware on, and Tony suited up:

And off into the dark!

It was very fun afternoon, and we all had a good time doing what this place is all about!

I hope you enjoyed the "tail" and I didn't breach any etiquette with too many pictures in what could have been a much shorter tale!

Welcome Tony, I'm sure you'll enjoy this place.

Maybe you like 'Dutchies' and not nOObs :dopeslap:

Tony is the smarter of us too apparently.... he escaped Frog Country AND got to live close to someone who knows how to do throttle syncs :)

Nice pictures, good pizza !

And, oh, 'Hi Tony!!'

That was actually a lot of fun and aside from the throttle sync I feel comfortable doing it all again. Just a few points of interest.

Sorry the cigar wasn't a Cuban, I will do better next time...

Thanks for making it appear I am wearing pants underneath those chaps...

It was cold and windy on the Benicia bridge going home but boy did that bike sing. She ran good before but it was noticably smoother on the ride home.

Thanks to both you and Jacqueline for the hospitality.

I guess the biggest thing I learned that day was how Guinness was invented.

I hope to see you all again soon.

I am so tempted to say something here........but Richard can be sort of fragile....and I need to keep half my friends happy.

Temptation is not necessarily a bad thing.

Now let's have the whole truth here Russ!

Did you, or did you not, get breakfast the first time you came by?

Did you, or did you not, turn down the offer of dinner after we finished your bike on your visit?

As the saying goes around here.... Russ should reply... "It's my story and I'm sticking to it!"

That's right....it's my story and I'm sticking to it! (Thanks for the pancakes AND the support Jacqueline!) For the record, Sir Richard did ask me to stay for dinner but he didn't mention PIZZA! Pizza is a different story! We'll do dinner soon Bub!

You missed big time, garlic and white sauce, hmmmm.

And Russ, did you see the garage fridge is full of beer? hmmmm....

And Richard, for as little as my bike was off, it sure made a big difference in how it runs and sounds. Either these bikes are real sensitive to how the valves are set, or putting those valves back into spec also fixed a slight sync problem, since we didn't have to change that. But, the loose spark plug might have had some effect as well.

Either way, it is running like a BMW!!! I am going to put some miles on it this weekend. Especially after spending two evenings reading Jacqueline's Alaska ride. One word: "Wow!"

Tony, Yes I saw all of the beer and I thought I showed great restrain by not filling my side cases with it while Richard was in the house! Have a great ride this weekend if you do make it out.
