Bud
Friend of mine just got an RT a few months ago. He wants to know if there is something special about changing the battery because of the CANBUS system. Or is it just like any other battery replacement? Link to comment

After the new battery is connected he should perform a TPS learn though.. That involves turning the ign switch on (do not start),, then fully open & close the throttle twice,, turn ign key off.. That is about all involved.. Twisty Link to comment
99Roadster
Remove, replace, do the the throttle twisty thing a couple of times if you want it to learn faster and you're good to go. No difference in CANned vs unCANned Link to comment
johnlt
Yes, you need to re-set the min/max throttle. The instructions are in the owner's manual. Link to comment

IndianaHarvey
Yes, you need to re-set the min/max throttle. The instructions are in the owner's manual. Why? I've disconnected my 05 R12RT at least 2 times and didn't do the throttle twisty thing. Will be replacing the almost 4 year old battery next week. I'll read the manual, but it never made a difference the other times the battery was disconnected. Maybe the bike is smarter than I am and learned on it's own. Link to comment

It will eventually learn on its own, its just quicker to go through this procedure. Failing to do so will not cause damage but will probably impact your fuel consumption. Andy Link to comment
