Hermes
Don't know what happened, after an unruly shutdown, but my PC (Windows XP) swallowed my Outlook In, Sent and Deleted boxes' contents. I can see the .dbx files in here: :\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{28FFBA4D-C349-427D-B0F3-419EDE77A8D7}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Inbox (1).dbx but it looks as if MS decided to create a new version of the above because the above data bases have been re-created with a (1) version, e.g. Inbox(1).dbx, with no data. I sent myself a fresh mail and it started populating my new Sent and Inbox (1) version. Question: How can I re-activate my old databases. I tried renaming the original to (1) and deleting the newly created, but that didn't work. Needless to say, I have a ton of Info in my Inbox and I would be extremely far up the creek if I can;t get its contents back Anyone have any bright ideas, please: Link to comment

Hermes
Were you using Outlook or Outlook Express? I was using Outlook Express. And it occurred to me, when I was pulling the plug (the PC had frozen up), out of the corner of my eye, I saw OE was doing some re-organizing e.g. compacting, but I had already pulled the trigger.
