If weather in Las Vegas is your concern, this might help you out. Check expected temps/precip, and plan accordingly. Note that conditions can vary wildly from the seasonal averages; in Y2K I went through Vegas in late May (average/expected high: 92), and got stuck in stop-and-go traffic on the strip with 108-degree air temps. Yuck. If it were me, mid-April in Las Vegas would be great - but you might find trouble in some of the more mountainous areas during the other parts of your journey, so check expected conditions in those areas too for the time you plan to travel.
