cover over CD player- what is brkt for

I bought this bike used and cannot figure out if this bracket on the underside of the CD compartment cover is meant to do something, anyone know?

I left my flashlight in the bracket and attached (with velcro) a universal garage door opener (key fob size).

I put the flashlight in the box and use the bracket for a Chapstick tube.

Hmm, well maybe, but my garage door opener fits in my pocket, works there with gloves on and I still have a flashlight in easy reach. I didn't Dremmel nothin'.

I added a pair of BMW switches on the right handlebar to operate the garage door and fog light. Keep a maglight in the bracket, I hate to have an unused gizmo!

 

On the subject of unused gizmos, what is the switch like raised bit on the left hand side of the instrument surround for? Do BMW have a switch to go there and what would it be for?
