Transmission Seal Leaks...sigh

I took my 2006 RT in for an oil change before the winter since it was overdue.

I get a call that they found an oil leak which then turn into (3?) leaking seals in the transmission. Which then turned into fluid on the friction plate of the clutch. It will all be covered by warranty, but it bums me out. The opinion of the service dept was that this was a factory problem and that no riding style or maintenance could have caused this.

It will be ready next week after parts arrive.

She told me that it was basically in 2 pieces and I could come up today and see it. I'm 99.9% sure I won't go, but if my morbid curiosity wins, I'll post a pic.

While I had her on the phone, I asked about her experience with everyones favorite topic - final drive failures. She told me that she's only ever seen one on an 1150RT.

Hoping to get the bike back and squeeze in a few more rides while the mild weather lasts.

This is a fairly common issue, and the standard fix is to replace all the seals while there, and the clutch disc if contaminated.

The consensus is that the factory has QC issues with the install of the seals, and that normally when the dealer fixes it, it stays fixed.

Except in my case.

My engine seal leaked. The dealer replace both engine seals and the gearbox input and output seals as a precaution.

20000km later the gearbox output seal leaked. :(

Fortunately it was all covered under warranty.

I had an '03 LT and put roughly 32K miles on it. First the rear main seal went. THen an output shaft seal went. Then another output shaft seal went and killed the clutch. I traded it for my '05 RT. Been lucky with it so far.

That's exactly what was done. Four seals + clutch plate.

I should have mentioned it was a 2006 R1200RT with about 16k miles.

Good news is the bike is done. Bad news is I'm at work and I might now be able to get it until Tuesday.
