moshe_levy
All- In keeping with all of our battery threads last week, I got my hands on BMW's + post extension, presumably to make jump starting easier should that be required. My early-build '04 model did not have this post from the factory. I modified the bracket to fit my Enersys battery - a simple bend in the vice did the trick. Next, I drilled a hole in the extension, so that it now also serves as the tie-down point for my farkles. In this way, connections will be infinitely easier to deal with than accessing the + terminal of the battery, as was the case before. Here's a picture - I apologize for the horrible quality and bad lighting, but this wasn't my usual camera... Overall, an easy and inexpensive project that I think will come in very handy when required. -MKL Link to comment
bmwmick
Excellent idea for ANY battery. Ted at the Beemer Shop sells the kit too. http://www.beemershop.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=85&osCsid=dba008e30856d9d96a152cffdb0cc7be Mick Link to comment
MAT2CHI
Were you able to put it on while the battery was in your motorcycle? Link to comment
moshe_levy
Yes. My Enersys battery has little copper L-brackets to connect to the terminals, so I hooked everything up loosely to the + L-bracket and then connected to the terminal. It was a pain - there is very little room in there to get your fingers. That's why I now hook up the accessories and farkles to the post itself, so I don't have to reach in to the battery anymore. -MKL Link to comment
MAT2CHI
Do you think it's possible to hook up the bracket on a stock battery while it's in the bike? Link to comment
Boffin
It would be very difficult, there is not much room to get to the + terminal. To get decent access you need to remove the LH side panel and the air-intake snorkel. Then you unstrap the battery, pull it out about an inch which lets you undo the ground terminal. Then you pull it out the rest of the way yo get to the + terminal. Andy Link to comment
AndyS
Do you think it's possible to hook up the bracket on a stock battery while it's in the bike? For the amount of fiddling involved, you would be better off removing LH tupperware and remove the battery - you will be able to make a much better job of it all. While your at it whip off the RH tupperware and do a TBS. You know it's worth the effort. Andy Link to comment
Bigfish
Andy, I'm new to my 2004 Rt and am wanting to self install a new battery. Getting the fairing off is no problem. What do you mean by "LH tupperware"? Also, what is TBS? Thanks in advance. Link to comment

'Tupperware' is the jokey name we give to the plastics on the bike - especially the fairing. So LH Tupperware is the left-hand fairing side panel. TBS is a TLA for Throttle Body Synchronisation - balancing the throttles to each other. You may also find this Acronym thread useful Andy Link to comment
