honest Bob
It's a 97R1100RT. Does anyone know how to get the inner engine cover off. I have it loose but it won't come out far enough to clear the crank end because it is up against the telelever. Link to comment
awagnon
Are you talking about the cover for the alternator belt? If so, you need to remove one of the "shark fins", or the plastic at the bottom on one side. ( I usually do the right side. ) You can also split the cover (saw it in half) for easier next time, but I haven't done this. Link to comment
Anton Largiader
I think I may have replaced that cover on one bike with the Telelever in place, by removing the front shock and letting the suspension compress or something like that. If so it was very tight, and not worth it. Just pull the Telelever axle and let everything move forward. Link to comment
honest Bob
I should have been more specific Al. It's the cover behind the alternator belt cover. Link to comment
honest Bob
I was just about to try removing the shock Anton, as it appears to give you more clearance. I will go your route instead. As I understand it, I should take the lower shock bolt out, remove the front wheel plastic, remove the lower fork bridge mounting bolts, and remove the telelever axel. Thus allowing the telelever to displace on it's own. Or can I just pull the axel and shock bolt and move the forks forward while still fastened at the top? Link to comment
Anton Largiader
It's tempting to just pull the TL axle and see if you can push everything far enough forward to give clearance, but the safe route (to keep from stretching brake hoses and stuff) is probably to remove the wheel & fender and then unfasten the brake pipes from the fork legs. Let all of that sit off to one side. At that point you can probably pull the TL axle and shove everything far enough forward to let the cover clear the crank nose. If not, then you'll be taking the fork bridge off the fork tubes. You'll need to pull the left throttle body and intake manifold in order to get the axle out. Link to comment
honest Bob
Thanks again Anton. It's off to the garage I go. Link to comment
