mrsoup
The 1100RT needs new shoes and I am trying to decide what to buy this time around. I see the Pirelli Strada at good prices but know nothing about this tire. Is it a good sport touring tire similar to the Metzler Z6? I have heard positive things about Pirelli, what is their best tire for the RT? Link to comment
cyclebrkr
I run the strada's on my 1200rt amd they are a great tire. Good tire life, excellent handling characteristics and excellent grip. Everyone has differing opinions of each tire and i think the only real(and most expensive)way to be happy is to try each major contender. Also, Pirelli and Metzler are owned by the same parent company, so they are in fact, the same tire. Link to comment
Big_Gray
Now I would have to say that is a tremendous leap in logic. Link to comment
GregB
They are "in fact, the same tire" Yes, both of them are black and round. They just have different brands and models to overcharge the naive It is a "leap in logic" far beyond thinking that the Metzler Z6 tires mentioned are even SIMILAR to the Metzler M-3 tires I have on the Boxer Cup. cyclebrkr
Sorry, i should have put in there that the Strada and the Z6 are the same model. That info came from a Pirelli Rep. Link to comment
GregB
That makes much more sense. The tire carcass could be the same with just differences in tread pattern. The associations between the two companies certainly makes that possible. My experience (long ago) as an engineer for a car company would make me a bit skeptical of the statements of a tire rep since they are likely to be much more "sales" than "technical". I was tempted to try the Pirelli Diablo Strada on my RT due to my good experiences with the Pirelli Diablo on my X-Moto. I never got to the point of determining how similar they were. It is possible that they are only similar in name. Fernando (Effbee) recommended the Dunlop Roadsmarts when he worked at Brown Motor Works and I am VERY pleased with them. Link to comment
Paul In Australia
I have Pirelli Diablo Stradas on a 2008 1200 rt. They have about 5000 kms on them so far. great grip in wet and dry, good feedback, no noise and so far good wear. Definately superior to Bt 020's OEM on MY BIKE ( to stop all the arguments ). I will be replacing the Pirellis with pirelli's when neede. Very happy. best regards Link to comment
jfremder
I've run two sets, and will be buying a third. ~8000+ on the rears 2-up, loaded. Good in the wet, quiet in the corners. Less $$$'s than the PR2's or roadsmarts. Link to comment
Penforhire
I compared Stradas with Z6's (buddy's K-RS and my FJR). We had read they were based on the same design. There was hint, somewhere, that the Z6 has slightly better performance. We couldn't prove it but the tread patterns are similar. IIRC, my buddy didn't like the mileage he got out of his Stradas on the K-RS but I imagine they'd go further on a R-RT. Link to comment
cyclebrkr
Suspension settings also have an effect on tire life. If you have basic sag (via pre-load), then compression, rebound settings adjusted for your weight and riding style, your mileage on the tire can significantly increase. Link to comment
Koop
I had Pirelli Diablo Strada tires on my Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 and liked them very much. I liked the way the front felt and turned in, it was better than the original Metzler Z6. Overall handling and grip were excellent. The rear lasted ~10,000 miles. Link to comment
bgf50
I ran them once on my 1150 RT and didn't like them. I only got 6,000 miles out of the rear before it was toast. Never tried them on my 1200RT. Bill 07 R1200RT Link to comment
