Bud Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Let's see. 75 gal of gas on a trailer behind him. No sleep. You figure it out.
motoguy128 Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Pretty impressive accomplishment. Getting pulled over adds an asterisk to his trip, but he didn't do it to break any records. I agree.. a bit crazy and dedicated at the same time.
Joe Frickin' Friday Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Yikes. I've known a few people now who have been afflicted with deep vein thrombosis. Sitting on your ass for 35 hours straight seems like a pretty strong risk factor...
Paul Mihalka Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Deep vein thrombosis can probably be prevented if you stand up for a while, or do a few stand up/sit downs once in a while. What I would be more worried about is not closing your eyes for a minute for 35 hours.

upflying Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Uhhhh, how does Gary "relieve" himself? An external catheter such as Stadium Pal. http://www.stadiumpal.com/ The other side of elimination can be managed by careful diet and enema prior to the ride.

The Stadium Pal website gives an example of the product being used by long distance motorcycle riders such as the Iron Butt. Any Iron Butt veterans care to elaborate?
BanjoBoy Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Yeah, I've known "long riders" who who just have a tube run down their pant leg. But 35 hrs? What about a #2 (bowl movement)Man that's a long time! What do you eat a brick of mozzarella cheese before the trip?
kudzu Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 What I would be more worried about is not closing your eyes for a minute for 35 hours. Do you think there might be some amphetamines involved in this undertaking? The "how" of this adventure is easier for me to understand than the "why." Of course, I never done anything others might think insane!
motoguy128 Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 So does he capture his waste from the catheter in a container... or just let it run onto the roadway? I'm guessing hte later. Catpuring what I can only imagine is about a 1/2 gallon of urine while riding a motorcycle isn't terribly convenient only using gravity.
Rob L Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 I "prefer" stopping. I wouldn't want to deal with the bag when it's full and getting off of the bike every couple of hours is definetly good for circulation and cramped muscles. Pee in a bag? no thanks.......this is one of life's simple pleasures.
Paul_Burkett Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Life can be a great adventure when calculated risks are taken into account. He said that he is still paying the price for sleep deprivation, but so what, people do it all of the time in the military and live to tell the story. Some times you have to try the impossible, that is where personal growth comes from....or coffin, but how will you ever know what you can accomplish unless you try?
blkvelvt Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 A trailer filled with gasoline, smoking electrical wires, his human biproduct possibly strapped to his body and no sleep. I'm voting (oops can't say that word), I'm thinking maybe he's a few tacos shy of a combo plate. I would stop and enjoy the whole experience along the way
sjn7708 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 staying up for 36 hours at a time is one thing. In the old days, docs in training did this every 3rd night as a right of passsage into the profession. the medical profession realized how dangerous this could be and began limiting the work schedules of residents (doctors in training), and recommends the same for physicians in practice. staying up for 36 hours while driving a vehicle is pretty difficult to support.

Time for me to leave "This" thread!!!
