*Top This One For A Speeding Ticket*

Two California Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just north of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar. One of the officers was using a hand held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching the crest of a hill. The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour. The officer attempted to

reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and then turned off.

Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet which was engaged in a low flying exercise near the location.

Back at the CHP Headquarters the Patrol Captain fired off a complaint to the USMC Base Commander. The reply came back in true USMC style:

Thank you for your letter. We can now complete the file on this incident.

You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked on to your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it, which is why it shut down.

Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on to your equipment location.

Fortunately, the Marine Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile system alert status and was able to override the automated defense system before the missile was launched to destroy the hostile radar position.

The pilot also suggests you cover your mouths when cussing at them, since the video systems on these jets are very high tech.

Sergeant Johnson, the officer holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose. Also, the snap is broken on his holster.

Thank you for your concern.

Once a Marine, Always a Marine!

I love it!

Semper Fi!

I used to work on those airplanes when I was in. He's not kidding. (chuckle, chuckle!)

I'm sorry, why did he override the launch? :/

I like this one too..

In his book "Sled Driver" SR-71 Blackbird pilot Brian Shul writes: "I'll always remember a certain radio exchange that occurred one day as Walt (my back seater) and I were screaming across Southern California 13 miles high. We were monitoring various radio transmissions from other aircraft as we entered Los Angeles airspace. Though they didn't really control us, they did monitor our movement across their scope.

I heard a Cessna ask for a readout of its groundspeed."90 knots" Center replied. Moments later, a Twin Beech required the same. "120 knots," Center answered. We weren't the only ones proud of our groundspeed that day as almost instantly an F-18 smugly transmitted, "Ah, Center, Dusty 52 requests ground speed readout. There was a slight pause, then the response, "525 knots on the ground, Dusty."

Another silent pause. As I was thinking to myself how ripe a situation this was, I heard a familiar click of a radio transmission coming from my back seater. It was at that precise moment I realized Walt and I had become a real crew, for we were both thinking in unison. "Center, Aspen 20, you got a groundspeed readout for us?" There was a longer than normal pause.....

"Aspen, I show 1,742 knots" No further inquiries were heard on that frequency.

Funny tale indeed. Another point to take into consideration is an aircraft with any "Live" ordinance flying over a populated area. The F/A-18 would have blue tipped inert weapons and blue inert bombs mounted for learning flight characteristics maybe. All live weapons would be used on bombing ranges. Out at China Lake in the desert here, the military has a 2 hour "bug out" window prior to any live launch of weapons. They will evacuate all moving vehicles prior to any live fire for safety purposes.

This is an old one, which has circulated here, one version is that the Police in Northumberland in North East England clocked an RAF Tornado on the Radar Gun.

There are others, including one which I heard from a Military Policeman, who claimed it was one of his colleagues out checking military vehicle's speed in the area of the Otterburn ranges.

At the end of the day I suspect it never happened anywhere, but it's a good story anyway!
