Skywagon
I went to the Harvest Classic Antique Motorcycle show in Luckenbach, Texas this weekend. It was a pretty nice event and the first time I have ever seen BMW out number Harley at an open public show... Dag - nab - it. I lost one of my keys. I keep one of those little flat silver ones without a head in the glove box so I can get water when I am riding. When we got ready to leave this morning, I couldn't find the key. How do you get one? Dealer, Germany, local locksmith? Not Possible. I'm guessing the dealer. What information will I need? 2005 R1150 RT Regards Link to comment
GrumpyOldMan
Assuming you have a working key and that the key blank for your R1150RT is the same as my R1100RT, then you can get a key cut at any full service key shop (or locksmith). The key blank is an ILCO # X59 (BMW2). This key blank has a full size head. You could grind the key head accordingly to make it look like your original 'little' key. Link to comment
azpilot06
I believe the dealers only sell blanks. A rubber-headed OEM one will cost something like 9 bucks. Any locksmith can duplicate it for you, but they have to be able to cut a steel key if you use the OEM blank. Link to comment
selyab
I have had a locksmith refuse to make a copy because it is steel. Link to comment
Skywagon
Good new....went to Gulf Coast today and bought two original steel blanks...They even have a BMW stamp on them. The blanks were $7.00 each. Gulf Coast gave me a card of a locksmith about 1 mile away. I went there, they cut the keys for $2 dollars each. They both work perfectly. $9.00 each total. I know a bit expensive, but they are original and worth it to me. Link to comment
KER
your BMW dealer can'/won't copy them for you? When i bought my last bike they made me a few extra keys onsite before I left. Seems odd that you would have to go to a locksmith to get it copied. Link to comment
awagnon
I went to multiple locksmiths and none would cut steel keys. I ended up having generic brass keys made which work just fine. Maybe they won't even rust. Link to comment
Skywagon
The dealer said no they couldn't make the key. They had the blanks. They told me, don't know if it is right or wrong, but if I ordered original from BMW NA it would be $35/key Anyway all turned out well....has anybody seen my watch? Link to comment
