11101110
My bike is very disassembled at the moment. Anything else I should do while I'm here? Tupperware off, tank off, FD off and seets off (just hope I can remember where everything goes So far I have or will shortly: Replace fuel lines and QD (with metal ones) Replaced fuel filter (I did not know there were exposed electrical connection in the tank) Sucked new brake fluid through the system. Had the FD rebuilt. replaced starter cable (Used 4AWG weld wire with Burndy seamless crimp connectors. She ain't melting again ) added busbars to the battery for more direct connections. Have also recently done the Trans and engine oil. charge the battery ???? ???? Link to comment
skinny_tom (aka boney)
Clean the electrical contacts between the harness and the gas tank, and apply a bit of dielectric grease to ensure accuracy of fuel gauge. Take a peek at your alternator belt. Top off your battery if it's serviceable. Link to comment
Godfather
While you are this far you may want to remove the foot peg plates then... You can disassemble clean and lube the shift linkage pivots. Pull the starter, clean and lube the shaft Clean and apply dielectric grease to every electric connector you can find Polish the exhaust system front to back to remove that nasty orange color. Totally clean everything you can see and spritz some 303 protectant on everything that does not require waxing. Lastly Wax evert metal piece you can get your hands on. Link to comment
billy bee
My bike is very disassembled at the moment. Anything else I should do while I'm here? Depends on the miles, I think. But with some additional pain, you'd be able to lube the splines. bb Link to comment

Tony_K
How much more pain? Swing arm, Drive shaft and Trans OUT. You know, the half the bike apart look. It's FUN! Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. Link to comment
thencamebronson
I'd replace the neutral safety switch. Link to comment
Tony_K
I'd replace the neutral safety switch. Oh hell yeah! I didn't do that and it's gone all wonky. When I see green it's a momentary dream. Dark is more on the mark for my ride. Link to comment

But with some additional pain, you'd be able to lube the splines. bb I have 55k on the bike. How much more pain? About as much work (time, and labor cost) as R&R the transmission. Having done that myself, my advice is to run it without worrying about it until the splines, tranny, or the clutch wears out, and THEN R&R the whole lot. Spline lubs are overkill, unless maybe you opt for the "spinal-tap" method of going in through the flywheel housing at the starter with a syringe. At 57K miles my splines had ZERO wear, i.e. they looked like new. You can have the transmission rebuilt for $1200 to $1500, and it'll run better than new for another 60K to 160K miles. Why tear the bike down unless you have to? At 55K miles, I'd consider replacing the throttle cables. My 2 cents. Link to comment
