Pilot Roads- reverse tread patterns??

OK, I just my first set of Roads on the 1100RT and I have to ask,,,,,Why is the front tire tread pattern reversed compared to the rear? The rear tire's pattern stays in-line with everything I ever thought treads were designed for,,,That is, channeling water away from the the center as your traveling. Kinda like the chevrons on a tractor tire with mud. The "points" on the chevron contact the pavement first and force water or mud outward...But although they have the same pattern, it's ass-backwards on the front confused.gif It would seem you would want to clear out water ESPECIALLY on the front. Ultimately, I did install them as the the manufacturer depicts with the rotation arrows going foward but I just wonder why the difference....

Traction. (Mind you I didn't go down and look, but this is a comment carried over from mountain bike tires).

The front wheel needs traction most in braking situations, and the rear in power situations, so the tread pattern looks "reversed" so that each tire is most efficient depending on the type of work it will be doing.

Hmmm, since I'm not too anal I'm just going to enjoy the new-found smoothness and traction they provide over the Battlaxes that I took off thumbsup.gif...............and maybe ask a Michelin engineer one day wink.gif

A few years ago a tyre dealer put a rear tyre on my Honda 125 back to front. After the normal break-in period, I started to ride normally. Then I noticed the tyre was spinning when I accelerated away from the lights and locking up when I braked even moderately hard. London traffic tends to be more like a Grand Prix race!

So my advice is don't do it. Also make sure you check your dealer puts them on correctly. I had a "motorcycle specialist" tyre shop fit a rear tyre on the front (Iwaited till he'd finished before telling him), . He wasn't happy about having to do the whole job again. He then put the front tyre on reversed!!! So he had to do the job a third time. I didn't go back again.

I'm sure you didnt miss this but, the rotation arrows will face opposite directions depending on where you're looking at them. On top, rotates forward. On bottom, rotates back.

Yea I got that. The tires ARE mounted correctly. The question was why do the patterns themselves differ in how they contact the road. Conventionally, the groove(s) in the center-most portion of the tire "cuts" the water and as the tire rolls that water is channeled outward toward the sides. The rear pattern does this. With the front the pattern is opposite.
