BawdyMonk
I'd like to use my Garmin Vista on my KGT, I've got the main bracket but left the handle bar mount (which I don't think would of been any use anyway) on my GSA. What's the best mount to use on a KGT? Link to comment
mstrang
RAM makes a great dedicated base option for the K1200RS/GT. Go to the Cycoactive gallery and scroll down halfway to the K1200GT example. The special parts needed are listed there: the "GRAB9" and "GCR11B" plus the 10mm spacer from "GCMXB". If you kept the RAM arm from your GS, you're good to go! You can order the parts here : M, Q, and S. I've used this combination just recently on my KRS and I'm impressed with how small (and sturdy) it is. Doesn't look too ugly if you want to take off the rest of the RAM mount sometimes. Link to comment
Tool
The stuff available from RAM boggles the mind. You may want to consider using a RAM reservoir mount, which replaces your rez cover...either clutch or brake side. Looks like this: Link to comment
mstrang
The reservoir mount will place your GPS higher in your visual field. I thought the position would interfere with the KRS stock windshield, although the KGT shield is higher so it may not be a problem for BMonk. With the GRAB9 base, the position of the GPS is directly in front of the ignition switch, but below the row of idiot lights and gear indicator (I'm using the smallish Quest). It just peeks up in front of my tankbag. I was concerned before purchasing that it would be too low to see without some real neck craning downward, but that hasn't been the case. Link to comment
BawdyMonk
Thanks guys , I like the idea of the res mount, however I'm not sure where I can get one , as is said it was specialist engineered for that R1100. If i can't find one, it'll be the grab9 for me. Link to comment
DangerMoney
You may want to consider using a RAM reservoir mount, which replaces your rez cover...either clutch or brake side. I bought the Hoon Hardware RAM mount as it's much less expensive than the reservoir lid replacement. Link to comment
mstrang
I found one here for $86 + s/h. Second row, third from left. Fit and finish complements BMW bikes better (see Denny's picture above), but you DO pay for it. Link to comment
Tool
I was going to include the picture from Mike's Link to "CycleGadgets" - but that photo wasn't as clear as the one I used. But the Rez mount IS a stock RAM part. The ad says: RCB-RESCVR-L+SMALL RCB-RESCVR-R+SMALL Replacement BMW Reservoir Cover for R1100S, all R1150 models, K1200LT, K1200RS, K1200GT. Available for Clutch (L) or Brake ®. Includes RAM-SMALL. I guess that means it comes WITH a RAM ball? FWIW, I actually HAVE one of those reservoir covers, purchased from a friend who didn't use it. However, I haven't installed it yet, as I keep all my bike electronics in my tank bag, to facilitate switching between my bikes. I bought it to use for mounting my Valentine One Radar Detector, but that works well the way I now have it set up, mounted above the Space Case on my BigMak bag. Link to comment
Caseyd
I have the Clutch res Ram mount for my garmin 276C, I am very happy with it. I bought them both from CycleGadgets.com - recived the next business day on two different purchases. Highly recomend them, both the res cover Ram mount and Cyclegadgets. FWIW, good luck, Casey Link to comment
